This was written before Akumu LNs were released, so that's two decades ago now. Some tidbits I do find interesting and can definitely be useful as your GH fanfic prompts XD Enjoy~
If you missed the first part, check here~
Shibuya Branch Office
It has already been three months since the first part was completed. Time flies by so fast.
I have received many inquiries, wondering if the second part is not done yet. But even for Ono [1], with prior commitments on top of the schedule, it is not so easy to start working on the second part…
Anyway, it is next in line after finishing the current tasks, so you will not have to wait a year for it… supposedly(^_^;).
Turtles are in a rush in their own way, so please wait patiently.
Q10: Why does Naru have black hair although he’s British!? Why!! Are there British people who have black hair!? Ah… Gene has black hair as well.
Yes, they do exist. Even in Japan, some naturalized Japanese citizens and half-Japanese have blond hair. Similarly, some also have black hair. By the way, Naru and Gene are ¾ Japanese and ¼ Irish. Their father is from an Irish lineage, so genealogy-wise, they are of Irish descent. Moreover, come to think of it, Griffith was their surname before they were adopted.
Q11: It would be nice to have a child like Naru if I were to give birth to one.
For that to happen, first, find a husband who is extremely handsome. Additionally, please severely torment your child until they grow a twisted personality. (However, I will not take responsibility even if they turn out to be merely bad ^^;)
Now, could there be a new book announcement in the next message? That would be great (*with deep emotion*).
Q12: I’ve been curious about it since before; it should be summer in the book There is Really an Abundance of Evil Spirits [2], yet everyone wears long sleeves. Mai is wearing some sort of coat too. Please Don’t Summon Evil Spirits [3] is exactly the same also, so I wondered if everyone has a long-sleeves rule. If it is following this rule, then they will surely have summer clothes in I’m Fine Even With Evil Spirits [4] Parts 1 and 2, riiight? Why on earth is it like this? How should I interpret this? Could it simply be Nakamura-sensei’s mistake?
About that, perhaps it’s because Nakamura-sensei is a laid-back, easygoing person about tiny details…? (^_^;)
Now that I recall, “Spot the Mistake” [5] is Nakamura-sensei’s idea, but Ono has nothing to do with it. Please don’t blame me~
Q13: Please reveal Yasuhara-san's profile.

Q14: Is the illustrator for the second part of the Akuryou series also Yukio Nakamura-sensei?
My apologies, but from the second part, the illustrator has changed. As for information about the next illustrator, it is currently being discussed, so that is undecided.
Q15: Regarding Naru, where does he cut his hair when it has grown out? Does he cut it by himself? …Wha—Could it be that it doesn’t grow…?! (Say, for example, he keeps it from growing through qigong.) No way.
Let me see. What would he do? I think he will probably go and get a haircut, but... (It is scary if Lin-san cuts it for him ^ ^;) The Naru that Nakamura-sensei draws came off with a perm, right? Naru whose hair is rolled with curlers… (lol). Or were those his natural curls?
🤣
NOTES:
Ono-sensei refers to herself in 3rd person at times. I maintained it when translating this because it’s funny and cute XD but also a close look on how she refers to herself when speaking to fans. When women speak like this, it’s usually within people they’re close to, so it’s not only cute but also brings a sense that she’s comfortable being playful with the people she’s talking to, namely her fans. Kind of like roleplay? Since Ono is a pen name and carries her author role XD
There is Really an Abundance of Evil Spirits = volume 2 of the GH LN.
Please Don’t Summon Evil Spirits = volume 6 of the GH LN.
I’m Fine Even With Evil Spirits Parts 1 and 2 = volume 7 and 8 of the GH LN respectively.
“Spot the Mistake” is a JP game show that’s like spot the difference but instead it’s about spotting errors on images/text everywhere.
Yasuhara’s university is definitely Tokyo University.
Humanities III = 文III = 文三, which is short for the Department of Humanities, Division 3
Yasuhara’s mom being “noble” can mean she’s from a noble/rich family. The word used can also mean “pampered.”
Naru and Gene’s middle names→I’ve speculated before that E.C. is from Edgar Cayce and J.A. is from Andrew Jackson Davis; both are popular mediums, with Andrew Jackson Davis said to be Edgar Cayce’s predecessor. Why is it “J.A.” and not “A.J.”? My guess is that this is a typo. On the fanzine print, they actually mispelled John as “Jhon” 😅😅😅, so I believe this is a typo case. Just that, we’ve got no way to confirm lol The practice of using popular figures as middle names, interestingly, came from the USA. It’s a practice to differentiate people with similar/identical first names as well as to honor people whom parents and the like found important/admirable. Since Naru and Gene are supposedly often name-dropped in relation to Edgar Cayce and Andrew Jackson Davis (both Americans btw) respectively, I think this is a plausible explanation why these people could be used as their middle names.
Lin’s first name, Koujo, means someone who succeeds with a calm and composed attitude, w/c is definitely like him XD
John is Jhon in the copy. I believe this is a typo, as mentioned.
THOUGHTS:
LMAO NARU WITH CURLERS FSDFSFSDFSDF That being the lore being his perm would be so funny fsdfdsf XD
Anyway, I was debating whether I should translate the characters' profiles again because I recall Shadowdreams did this part before. But looking over it, I wanted to make some notes about this and that, so I decided to just translate it again mostly for myself lol If it helps you guys too, then that's great~ XD
Btw on Twitter, they actually made a hashtag for you to talk about your love for Ghost Hunt. There’s JP fans only rn, but if you guys like, you can use it to talk about your love for GH too XD Showing there’s still overseas demand at least (since this is a tag made directly by the official Japanese manga magazine publisher).
kind of related to what the recent anon sent, but I've always personally thought that even though Mai would eventually be able to recover emotionally from Naru's death (if he died what they're both young, teens or 20s), Naru would not. this is not me saying I want to write tragedy or anything, it's just a personal opinion I have on how they sort of affected each other. for Mai, Naru introduced her to a group of people she loves deeply and widened her world, encouraging her to search for family even when she feels alone. but for Naru, Mai appeared at a moment when he needed someone like her (someone like 'Gene') the most. that's not to say that Mai is a replacement for gene or that she holds the same place gene did in Naru's life, of course, because that's just not true. but in a time where Naru could have felt completely alone and as though he only had himself to rely on, that wasn't the case. he had something to focus on, someone who wanted to speak to him—mai. Lin was there, but Lin is at best a mentor to naru—they can hardly be considered friends or family. and he's another person that sees Naru as a twin before he sees Naru as himself. Mai not only didn't know that Naru was a twin, but chose to stay around him anyway, long before she ever actually had any lengthier interactions with 'dream Naru's. the time at her school might as well have been wishful thoughts to her, and doesn't really count; in that time, she really did stay for Naru himself—abd since he didn't even know about her dreams then, that was all he perceived as well. Mai would be devastated by losing Naru, but she would be able to recover from it over time and come out stronger for it. naru...wouldn't. losing gene, I think, even if he is rarely emotional about it, made him more brittle. losing Mai would only worsen that.
*caveat of the others at SPR being really important to them both also, re: the girls going shopping together, the side story where Ayako talks about Naru getting her a medical kit, Takigawa sending flowers for Gene's funeral, etc—but it's obvious narumai impacted each other the most.
Hmm Personally, I think both Naru and Mai wouldn’t be able to live through each other’s death. We all know Mai is resilient, yes, but I believe there is a limit to her resilience and Naru dying would actually break her.
The proof of this is in Akumu no sumu ie. Naru made Mai stay put to help protect the Agawas, but she couldn’t stay still. She risked her life to go and help Naru instead. At that point, it’s clear that she does care a lot about him. She went down for him, got worried for him. It clearly wasn’t even motivated by her feelings for Gene.
The reason Mai could recover after knowing about Gene was because of Naru too. It was because he gave her his and Gene’s portrait. If Naru were to die, I don’t think Mai would be able to live with it, esp with everything unspoken between her and Naru, and her not knowing until too late that she cares & loves him a lot more than she realized.
For Naru, he would definitely feel it hard too because he cared for Mai more than he could admit. She’s similar to Gene, but she’s also way different in many aspects. It’s also clear that he liked her more than he could admit, even the parts of her that are different than Gene (e.g., her being louder than Gene etc). And Mai changed his life in many ways he wouldn’t notice until later too.
They both have the SPR family now, but in the event that either of them die, I do think they’ll equally mourn & grieve so hard for each other.
Acc. to Inada-sensei, more volumes 1 & 2 will be reprinted! So anyone who missed it the first time can buy it. This is such a good news for everyone~
As I said before, you can get them thru a proxy service. I got vol 1 & 2 from Rakuten JP, but when they have it open for orders again on Amazon JP, maybe an Amazon seller will be there so international shipping is possible. If not, there’s still CDJapan.
Whichever works, I hope you guys can get it! Hopefully in the future, we can get these in English too. Idk if it will happen since yeah the last English publisher here messed it up and haven’t reprinted older volumes =.= Idk if someone can pick it up after all that’s done, really. Fingers crossed someday! Also hope other countries’ publishers will pick it up or continue until Akumu!
I’ll try to get all the volumes and translate anything if there’s something new for the meantime ☺️
Thank you so much to all of you for tolerating my delulu NaruMai antics again this year 🤣🤣🤣🥰😘
I couldn’t update some more translated stuff than I would like, and I hope this Year of the Horse will bring just that 😇💪🙏I’ll work hard to finish & release many GH-related things this new year as well~
We really had a pop-up shop for Ghost Hunt this 2025. And on 2026, a collector’s edition of the manga will be released too. What a blessing! I’m really glad to experience and share all these with you.
Preorders for Ghost Hunt Pop-Up Shop Merch Restarted!
Since the items were sold out, they’re opening up preorders again!
You can find them here.
I used a Proxy service for this, so I’m not sure about the one they’re advertising on the site. If you have a CDJapan account, check if it’s there too.
The preorders will only be accepted until March 23, & they’ll start sending the merch in the middle of June.
