I’ve been planning for Mai’s bday, but I think I’ll only be able to post it late TT Since I have family stuff to attend to and I couldn’t make enough time for GH this week and the last weeks.

But expect this coming week for it.

Also, it’s already Mai’s birthday in Japan yesterday but since it’s July 3 still in some parts of the world, let’s say it’s extended 😊🫶

I actually wanted to post some simple write-up about Mai just as appreciation yk. But that’ll take me a bit more time.

Before I often miss celebrating Mai’s bday because July is usually packed for me. This year, even if late, I want to do something～

Something I noticed in the novels compared to manga is how desperate Naru is when it comes to Mai. It’s so noticeable how he’s usually unflappable & then he flaps jdjdjd when Mai is in trouble or he’s worried about her. Mai doesn’t notice this & just narrates this to us, but I find it even funnier because she’s clearly used to Naru flapping around her, not realizing that’s NOT THE NORM for him when it comes to other people.

I made countless delulu observations actually but I think I’m sane with this~

Lol that fanfic post made me look at my fanfic on AO3 and I’m just yay I got a kudos 🥺☺️ Since it’s the only work I posted there so far, I think that’s really big tbh! And w/ 4 chapters out I’m actually quite surprised someone did that esp if they haven’t seen me post there before.

I honestly forgot how it was when I first started on ffnet. I barely got 3-5 reviews on 1 chapter I think? I don’t remember now, but yeah, I think I was more consistent back then & updated almost weekly. Until I got busy with school again. But looking back on all these things, I’m really glad at how far I’ve come. I’m still doing my best to finish my stories because I really want to read the ending too XD

Anyway, I’ve finished cleaning something so i hope i can release it soon. Just need to add text. I have longer stuff planned to work on (i think i said this a gazillion times lol). I am doing it at a snail pace rn because I also battle w/ myself & family stuff & other things TT But I have broken it to small chunks. I made a list as well to not get lost lol

I hope I finish all the long translations this year🙏I want to do so so badly

Last year and the one before last, I really kept on talking about my Infinity fanfic & then nothing 😂😭It really felt like all my feelings/excitement before finishing and publishing it just poofed.

Honestly, I don’t talk much to anyone about my fanfics since I’m usually embarrassed or anxious about it. Posting about it here is really me with a mindset of sending it to the void lmao 😭So Ig that’s why it doesn’t bother me much compared to actively chatting w/ people about them & then the convo dies ififivig I’m awkward like that. I mention them simply because I whine to myself lol Like grrrrr I want them out there but grrrr why can’t I write faster or make time for it grrrrr 🤣But there are people here who are very encouraging and I think that’s really nice🥺

Just thinking of these things because I usually write for myself nowadays, but I do see other writers struggle w/ the lack of engagement & want more people to read their stories. And it kind of made me nostalgic how I liked engagement when I was younger too, but now I’ve accepted that it’s ok w/o. I guess I’m used to not getting engagement to my stories now? I’m past the stage of caring much what people think? Idk😅

I think at the end of the day, I just want to enjoy writing, & if someone likes it, yay. If someone doesn’t, I’m sorry but I hope they can find something they want. I don’t want to compare myself to others at all. I think everyone is at different levels of writing, & someone else could be on Level 999 now while I’m stuck at 5 or something lol. I think I just kind of accepted there’ll always be someone better so it’s ok not to be the best overall. In the end, I just want to happily create.

Lol I’m rambling but just thinking about these things and really I’ve come to put a lot of things in perspective now than before😂

being an everything crafter is great but also sucks. like i want to get my watercolors out but i need to put away my microcrochet first. i want to do some leatherwork but my oil paints are on the table. i want to whittle but i'm using the bucket i catch wood shavings in to hold my papermaking mush. i want to write my book but my hands are too busy knitting a sweater. i want to code another video game but i'm too busy studying nalebinding. do you see my problem. the problem is that i need more hands

It has already been three months since the first part was completed. Time flies by so fast. I have received many inquiries, wondering if the second part is not done yet. But even for Ono [1], with prior commitments on top of the schedule, it is not so easy to start working on the second part… Anyway, it is next in line after finishing the current tasks, so you will not have to wait a year for it… supposedly(^_^;). Turtles are in a rush in their own way, so please wait patiently.

Q10: Why does Naru have black hair although he’s British!? Why!! Are there British people who have black hair!? Ah… Gene has black hair as well.

Yes, they do exist. Even in Japan, some naturalized Japanese citizens and half-Japanese have blond hair. Similarly, some also have black hair. By the way, Naru and Gene are ¾ Japanese and ¼ Irish. Their father is from an Irish lineage, so genealogy-wise, they are of Irish descent. Moreover, come to think of it, Griffith was their surname before they were adopted.

Q11: It would be nice to have a child like Naru if I were to give birth to one.

For that to happen, first, find a husband who is extremely handsome. Additionally, please severely torment your child until they grow a twisted personality. (However, I will not take responsibility even if they turn out to be merely bad ^^;) Now, could there be a new book announcement in the next message? That would be great (*with deep emotion*).

Q12: I’ve been curious about it since before; it should be summer in the book There is Really an Abundance of Evil Spirits [2], yet everyone wears long sleeves. Mai is wearing some sort of coat too. Please Don’t Summon Evil Spirits [3] is exactly the same also, so I wondered if everyone has a long-sleeves rule. If it is following this rule, then they will surely have summer clothes in I’m Fine Even With Evil Spirits [4] Parts 1 and 2, riiight? Why on earth is it like this? How should I interpret this? Could it simply be Nakamura-sensei’s mistake?

About that, perhaps it’s because Nakamura-sensei is a laid-back, easygoing person about tiny details…? (^_^;) Now that I recall, “Spot the Mistake” [5] is Nakamura-sensei’s idea, but Ono has nothing to do with it. Please don’t blame me~

Q14: Is the illustrator for the second part of the Akuryou series also Yukio Nakamura-sensei?

My apologies, but from the second part, the illustrator has changed. As for information about the next illustrator, it is currently being discussed, so that is undecided.

Q15: Regarding Naru, where does he cut his hair when it has grown out? Does he cut it by himself? …Wha—Could it be that it doesn’t grow…?! (Say, for example, he keeps it from growing through qigong.) No way.

Let me see. What would he do? I think he will probably go and get a haircut, but... (It is scary if Lin-san cuts it for him ^ ^;) The Naru that Nakamura-sensei draws came off with a perm, right? Naru whose hair is rolled with curlers… (lol). Or were those his natural curls?

NOTES:

Ono-sensei refers to herself in 3rd person at times. I maintained it when translating this because it’s funny and cute XD but also a close look on how she refers to herself when speaking to fans. When women speak like this, it’s usually within people they’re close to, so it’s not only cute but also brings a sense that she’s comfortable being playful with the people she’s talking to, namely her fans. Kind of like roleplay? Since Ono is a pen name and carries her author role XD

There is Really an Abundance of Evil Spirits = volume 2 of the GH LN.

Please Don’t Summon Evil Spirits = volume 6 of the GH LN.

I’m Fine Even With Evil Spirits Parts 1 and 2 = volume 7 and 8 of the GH LN respectively.

“Spot the Mistake” is a JP game show that’s like spot the difference but instead it’s about spotting errors on images/text everywhere.

Yasuhara’s university is definitely Tokyo University.

Humanities III = 文III = 文三, which is short for the Department of Humanities, Division 3 

Yasuhara’s mom being “noble” can mean she’s from a noble/rich family. The word used can also mean “pampered.”

Naru and Gene’s middle names→I’ve speculated before that E.C. is from Edgar Cayce and J.A. is from Andrew Jackson Davis; both are popular mediums, with Andrew Jackson Davis said to be Edgar Cayce’s predecessor. Why is it “J.A.” and not “A.J.”? My guess is that this is a typo. On the fanzine print, they actually mispelled John as “Jhon” 😅😅😅, so I believe this is a typo case. Just that, we’ve got no way to confirm lol The practice of using popular figures as middle names, interestingly, came from the USA. It’s a practice to differentiate people with similar/identical first names as well as to honor people whom parents and the like found important/admirable. Since Naru and Gene are supposedly often name-dropped in relation to Edgar Cayce and Andrew Jackson Davis (both Americans btw) respectively, I think this is a plausible explanation why these people could be used as their middle names.

Lin’s first name, Koujo, means someone who succeeds with a calm and composed attitude, w/c is definitely like him XD

John is Jhon in the copy. I believe this is a typo, as mentioned.

AUGH This is one of my favorite pages of both original and sequel series!!! He's still going to nag at her because that was dangerous and stupid, but he also knows she just saved his ass and she IS competent. They're not on the same unequal footing they were in the first series, they've rather hit their stride together, and I love that for them. Mai is going to listen to him when it matters but she's also not going to let him get hurt.

It’s one of my favs too. I love seeing Mai saving everyone in Forgotten Children & then saving Naru in Akumu. She really has come so far & it’s due to the fact she doesn’t really settle & always try to learn & then apply her learning. So proud of her TT
