saw some discussion about yandere characters in romance visual novels and how ren/redacted is supposedly a light version of a yandere. I feel like I have to disagree, people forget that yes he would never do anything to his MC that they didn’t want in a romantic fashion. he would not physically harm them. yet, that doesn’t mean he still isn’t violent and manipulative. we literally only know him how he shows us, we never will get the full story most likely. he lies very easily, was a red room streamer, stalks us, keeps items of the MC, has cameras in the MC’s apartment and has pictures. they most likely suffer from some sort of apathetic disorder, not to diagnose them, but he cares only for the MC and no one else. ren/redacted has literally tricked everyone into thinking they’re “yandere light” when really they’re probably one of the most violent and obsessive of the games I’ve played. the only really difference is that themes like non-con, dub-con, and cnc are not present. which I applaud saint for, I personally feel those themes do not add any value in these kinds of games FOR ME. a game would not be considered romance to me if it included those themes, only horror. I think this game itself is a good example of a romance horror visual novel in that regard (one of my personal favorite media genres)
anyways, he’s a great example of a yandere/morally black character. all of his actions are rooted in selfishness, obsession, and self-gain. however, he believes those actions are honest, made from pure love and devotion. he is genuinely, by our real world standards, irredeemable 💀
