On Thursday, June 19th, BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! commemorated Juneteenth’s Texan roots with a performance by Ghost-Note (of Dallas), and Flash Gordon Parks (of Houston) at Lena Horne Bandshell at Prospect Park. There were also readings from Voices of a People’s History by Alexis Floyd, Harron Atkins, and Russell G. Jones. Despite the hot and rainy weather, many attendees came to the park to celebrate the day.

I captured the event as a house photographer for BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! and some of that work can be found in this gallery. Photos from the event last year are available on my website as well. Images from the first year can be found in the June 2023 set here.

Since 2014, drummer/bandleader Robert Sput Searight and percussionist Nate Werth have led an incredible collective of musicians brought together as a groove-based funk, hip-hop and jazz group which has amassed a global audience. With Mustard n’Onions -- the follow-up to 2018’s critically acclaimed Swagism -- the band brings the funk to new levels with an album of originals featuring bassist MonoNeon (Prince), keyboardist Dominique Xavier Taplin (Toto), saxophonist/arranger Sylvester “Sly5thave'' Onyejiaka and more alongside special guest keyboardist and legend Bernard Wright.
