Ghost Animals of Somerset
There are many reports of sightings of ghostly animals all over Somerset, both of the four and two legged kind.. Including- A tabby cat at King Johns Hunting Lodge, Axbridge, a butterfly at Baths Theatre Royal, an ape and dog at Hotwells House, Bristol, an Exmoor Pit pony, a dog and dove at Washbridge, an ape at Brassknocker Hill, Bath, William Beckford's dog, Tiny at Beckford's Tower, Lansdown, Bath, a spectral horse on the A39 at Cannington, a galloping horse at East Chinnock, galloping horses at Porlock Hill and Battlefields House, Lansdown, Bath, and bears! at The Shrubbery, Weston Super Mare.. As well as many tales of dogs or Black Shucks.. A Black Shuck according to English Folklore is a ghostly black dog which roams the countryside, originating from East Anglia, but now more widely reported all over the country.. Somerset Black Shucks or ghost dog sightings have seen reported at - Winsford Hill (devil dog with glowing eyes) , Beckington. Combwich, Selworthy, St Audries, Wambarrows, Hembury Fort and Cleeve Hill, Watchet, ( both packs of hounds) and the Witch Tree, Stogursey. A helpful dog at Weacombe on the Quantocks that helps lost travellers and a white dog which chased a car at Wick St Lawrence. As well as the 'Beast' of Banwell... and a Shapeshifter in Bristol.. and a Wolverine at St Audries.. and albino fire breathing hounds at Wellington.
