Synopsis

But as she and Nolan begin to examine her past, they discover there are threads that bind them together— and realize there might be more to moving on than expected.
With the deadline of Christmas Eve fast approaching, will they find the key to their futures in each other’s pasts? Or will they stay firmly in the present, indulging in their unexpected, spirited connection?

My Thoughts
We all know that I adore fated mates as a trope. It’s in my top 3, if not my absolute favourite trope. What Good Spirits does with this trope is compelling, beautiful, and absolutely exquisite.
Nolan is a Ghost of Christmas Past. Harriet isn’t necessarily a Scrooge. Yet somehow their paths have crossed, and Nolan is determined to show Harriet the error of her ways, and lead her to a path of salvation. Except there’s just one problem of many to come – Harriet doesn’t need saving, and she certainly doesn’t need Nolan mansplaining her past to her.
All Nolan wants is to fulfill his obligations, and move on. All Harriet wants is to be loved and wanted for exactly who she is, rather than who everyone else wants her to be. They certainly don’t need, or want, the other meddling in their affairs. But here they are, in that exact situation.
They’re inexplicably drawn to each other. Through bickering, banter, and a fair bit of snark on both their parts, they do learn more about each other, and grow to care about each other. However, this turn of events was in neither of their holiday plans this season.
And yet, it is exactly what each of them needs.
I loved how their relationship came together through mutual healing. I loved how they wanted to heal for themselves, but also for each other. And I loved how they were both willing to put everything on the line for each other. And while this story takes place over the holiday season, this didn’t really feel like a holiday story to me.
This felt like two souls finally finding each other in the vastness of the universe at the exact right moment when they needed each other most.
There is more to explore in this world. And I cannot wait to dive back in when the time comes.
