to continue my pvp series, i would be remiss if i didn’t take a moment to appreciate @ghostgrlonfirst. genuinely one of the sweetest people i know and also an INCREDIBLE writer, who loves to use their work to provide community for people, to provide visibility, and above all to love on the characters that we all love.

i think the most poignant example of this is ink & honey, her ongoing longfic that has me by the THROAT. this fic is genuinely so sweet and so heartwarming. it’s like a warm drink (perhaps a cayenne hot chocolate?) at times, and at other times it will absolutely break your heart. it’s one of the most real depictions of the girls out there, with messy lives and trauma and the hope that things will get better. it is also so intentional with its depiction of disability, while never shunting it to the side or making it seem like it doesn’t matter. zoey and mira are fully realized people that also have disabilities, and i really love that in fic.

ink & honey also has a great supporting cast in rumi, celine, aarti, anqi, and (regrettably) ashley. they feel so grounded, so lifelike, alongside our main slow burn romance of zoey and mira. i especially love celine’s gender journey (already completed in the fic but truly wonderful) and rumi being aromantic, while still showing no lack of care and support for her life partner zoey, and their daughter hana.

there is nothing that i can say that will sum up hana adequately. she is such a wonderfully written child. she feels like a little person, someone that will grow to be a fully realized person. lumi has created such a wonderful character that we all love so, so much. i would die for hana, my wonderful birthday twin.

and speaking of! lumi is such an awesome collaborator. they share their world so openly, with so many people. chess and angel and prince and so many more get to play in their sandbox and i love it about them.

finally, i would be remiss if i didn’t mention the worst of what i came from. this fic is how i was introduced to lumi’s writing, and it is so. fucking. good. like jesus christ if you’re looking for polytrix horror go here rn. lumi has woven a wonderful, heartbreaking story and i need more people to give her love for that.

also the smut in all of lumi’s works is. really hot. they think they’re not a good smut writer. they are incorrect. if you like my smut (which. why), you’ll find lumi’s smut amazing. it always moves the plot forward and feels so in-character that it’s impossible not to love.
