Rules: put your music on shuffle, write the first 10 songs that come on and your favorite lyrics from them.
1) Ian Moore // Revelations
Silent charade you're a master of thought
Indiscretion mounting as you gather your loss
Undercover darkness was your veil
Words were stolen, love for sale
2) Depeche Mode // A Question of Time
I've got to get to you first
Before they do
It's just a question of time
Before they lay their hands on you
And make you just like the rest
3) David Bowie // Sound and Vision
Pale blinds drawn all day
Nothing to do, nothing to say
Blue, blue
4) No Diggity // Blackstreet
She's got class and style
Street knowledge by the pound,
Baby never act wild
Very low key on the profile
(note: this has been in my library well over 10 years; that Pitch Perfect scene made me super happy)
5) Melanie C // I Turn To You
When my insides are wracked with anxiety.
You have the touch that will quiet me
6) Gimmee the Light // Sean Paul
Seriously? This is purely to dance to. I can’t understand half the lyrics, and I don’t care at all
7) Rolling Stones // Paint It Black
I look inside myself and see my heart is black
I see my red door I must have it painted black
Maybe then I'll fade away and not have to face the facts
It's not easy facing up when your whole world is black
Searching in the darkness
Fading out of sight
Love was here and gone like a thief in the night...
Stone Cold...
and I thought I knew you so well
9) Alphaville // Forever Young
Let's dance in style, let's dance for a while
Heaven can wait, we're only watching the skies
Hoping for the best but expecting the worst
Are you gonna drop the bomb or not?
Let us die young or let us live forever
We don't have the power but we never say never
Sitting in a sandpit, life is a short trip
The music's for the sad men
Can you imagine when this race is won
Turn our golden faces into the sun
Praising our leaders, we're getting in tune
The music's played by the, the mad men
Some are like water, some are like the heat
Some are a melody and some are the beat
Sooner or later, they all will be gone
Why don't they stay young?
It's so hard to get old without a cause
I don't want to perish like a fading horse
Youth's like diamonds in the sun
And diamonds are forever
So many adventures couldn't happen today
So many songs we forgot to play
So many dreams swinging out of the blue
We let them come true
(all of them okay? All the lyrics are my favorite. Always sing along to this)
10) Come To Me // France Joli
Come to me
When your world is empty and cold
Come to me
When you need someone you want to hold
Not really fully representative of my music taste, but it does make clear that my song selections aren’t particularly cerebral - I think this kind of thing works better for people who are deeply involved in their song lyrics. I mainly just like a good melody and sometimes a good dance beat. And rocking out to classic rock, also. But really, I don’t actually connect with song lyrics very often, and while I do like clever lyrics a la They Might Be Giants, I really mostly choose songs based on their feel. (As a not-paticularly-invested-in-labels-but-nonetheless-basically-allochorosexual person pretty much all relationship/love songs are just pretty melodies to me.)
(FWIW I’m listening to Cuts You Up by Peter Murphy as I write this, which is like a perfect October song)
Tagging anyone that feels like it. Tag me if you do because I’m kinda curious. I bet there’s not a lot of overlap with anybody that follows me ;).
