Ghostly Habits 2: Differences from Canon and other info
h oly i didn’t expect people to like this AU so much xDD I welcome questions if anyone has any.
His Lair and Ghost Sense:
At the start, he doesn’t recognize his home as his lair but, eventually, it does happen. Danny can feel anyone and anything that comes into his lair which, again, is his house. Unlike in canon, he does not have a general ghost sense. His ability to sense ghosts is limited to his Lair/Territory.
The portals existence straight up sky rockets his anxiety because ghosts are using it to come into his da n g lair without asking.
(He barely stops himself from breaking the machine, but he considered it a LOT those first few months)
Over time, as his powers develop, his response to territory violation shifts towards from anxiety to anger.
Weaker ghosts, seeing as they have little or fewer ways of defending themselves, cope by hiding and/or avoiding others that may enter their lair despite the stress that it causes them.
Stronger ghosts tend to be more violent or prone to violence when it comes to encroaching on what they consider to be theirs. Danny isn’t much of an exception. He will chase the ghosts back through the portal, yelling at them to go away, though sometimes he ends up chasing them out of house instead. It doesn’t initially ring as a concern because all he feels is relief when they’re out. Well, that is until the screaming starts.
Danny doesn’t... take up ghost fighting in this AU or, well, not to the same extent he did in canon. Again, he’s really terrified in the beginning and is prone to hide during ghost attacks so, for a good 6-9 months doesn’t actually DO anything, even when ghosts like Lunch Lady and Technus show up.
Danny doesn’t actually seriously take on ghost hunting until he starts to unconsciously spread out the bounds of his lair. By then, he gets seriously offended and pissed if a ghost causes damage or harm in Amity Park or comes in his Lair without his permission.
Butterfly Effect: Town/Law
As a result of all the ghost attacks and no one being there to counteract them, the city council has to figure out a solution to all of this because people were pissed and all of these ghosts were causing serious property damage and sometimes injuries.
The citizens were demanding the portal be closed, permanently, much to the Maddie and Jack’s dismay. Instead, there were limitations put on the use of the portal.
1. There was to be multiple locks on it at all times
2. No frivolous use of the portal is allowed (so no fishing or pressing the button constantly, like in canon :/)
3. Experiments in relation to the use of the portal have to be pre-approved by the city
4. Whenever a ghost causes damage, a report of the incident must be made and evidence must be shown to disprove the involvement of the portal or deny negligence on the Fenton’s part. If shown to be in violation of any of the above rules, there would be a fine.
Butterfly Effect: Episodes
Due to this, quite a few episodes don’t occur the way they did, or even at all. Dora doesn’t show up well until the pageant episode and Skulker is... well, he’s a different matter. No one actually knows about Danny, not even the ghosts, until around the time Desiree is introduced and he gets his first offensive ability. Due to this, Skulker doesn’t come after him until Bitter Reunions in which Vlad informs Skulker of Danny’s existence.
In fact, most ghosts thought of him as the dumbass ghost haunting the ghost hunter’s house for AGES. They thought it was super funny until they actually interacted with him and found out that he was NOT someone to come after. They learned to book it the moment they got out of the portal.
Obsession: Family and Friends
Danny’s obsession plays a huge role in how he interacts with people. He can be friendly with someone until something in his head registers the other person as a threat to his friends or family (even mild annoyance pings on Danny’s radar and puts him on edge).
Vlad, for example, made him want to blast the hell out of the other man seconds after he saw how Vlad interacted with his parents. He gets visibly agitated the longer he has to stay in the same room with people that register as “major threat” because his instincts are screaming at him to ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK. People who are disliked, in contrast, are more shunned by him than anything or disregarded.
Threats towards him, once he gains offensive abilities and those abilities become reliable, are typically met with nonchalance or annoyance, maybe fear depending on the ghost, but, god forbid you touCH any one he cares about. Even before he gets his ectoblasts, he will die (again) before anyone he loves has to suffer. To put it into perspective, what Danny did to Dash in the Poindexter episode was MINIMAL compared to what he did to Dash for bullying Sam and Tucker in this AU.
