Tried to find peace, huh? He wasn’t exactly expecting for September to actually reply. As a matter of fact, he wasn’t even aware that she’d arrive as he offered dumplings on her shrine before he clapped his hands together to traditionally pay his respects for the dead. He had been doing this on Midoriya’s behalf for a while now after seeing how much anguish he was going through. Todoroki just couldn’t bring himself to tell the guy that the doll he and Hatsume made for her won’t magically come back to life with September in it like nothing ever happened.
That aside, though, it was surprising to witness what Midoriya said would happen if you left offerings at September’s grave. She was able to pick up the offering and consume it as if they were in the same plane of existence. Actually, more than anything he was starting to question when exactly does it pass from one plane to another. Maybe it instantly transferred to the spiritual realm the second she touched it. ‘Guess all the offerings had to disappear one way or another each and every time a person visited a grave. He just didn’t expect this to be one of those options.
“Not sure if keeping it a secret would be a good idea, to be quite honest.” Todoroki sat himself there on the ground in front of the grave before gazing aside with the tilt of his head. “Midoriya’s been worried sick about you since you never gave any of us a warning, so I don’t think I could agree to that just yet. Most of us figured you were finally able to find a way to pass on, but he kept on having this feeling that it wasn’t it.”
“He’s been watching over your bio-mechanic doll, you know. He looked all over the place and was the one who committed to leaving you offerings, but over time he ended up tiring himself out. I figured I might as well help him by taking the job of visiting your grave regularly. Might be better if you’d at least be honest with him.”
“... Besides, he’s not the only one who just wanted an explanation. You really had me concerned there. I was starting to think maybe there’s some ghost version of a kidnapping or something.”
