Anonymous’ fight against ISIS may hurt real online counterterrorism
After the Paris attacks, 5,500 ISIS Twitter accounts went down. But not because of Anonymous. The ISIS campaign can actually be attributed to GhostSecGroup an online counterterrorism squad of elite hackers unaffiliated with Anonymous that works closely with U.S. government agencies. Ghost Sec fights ISIS by finding and reporting social media accounts, but also infiltrating and spying on Daesh communication channels. Their leadership told Mic that while Anonymous is well intentioned, they could be costing innocent lives.
