           HE DOESN’T EXPLAIN why he’s here, but he’s fairly certain scott knows why. either way, he isn’t going to bring it up unless scott does. it’s close to the anniversary of allison argent’s death, and he has begun to notice the pang of mourning tainting the air around the pack. maybe he would have two years ago, but this time, he isn’t here to give scott a hard time. ( perhaps out of obligtion, or perhaps because the pack, and scott especially, have melted some of the ice coating his ribcage. )  instead, as soon as scott tugs the door open, derek lifts one arm to display a take-out bag of chinese food swinging from two fingers.     ❝  i bought too much food,  ❞  he lies,  ❝  you hungry ??  ❞

       SIRIUS GRUMBLES LOUDLY in response to remus’s instruction, and instead makes absolutely no effort whatsoever to move from his spot, with heat radiating from the fireplace and from his werewolf best friend. in fact, just to spite remus, he snuggles EVEN CLOSER and twists his body to throw one arm across the other’s torso and bury his face in remus’s bicep.   ❝  listen here, moony, they are traitors.   you’re the only one who understands me.   ❞    he’s mostly  joking, but he can’t help the pang of hurt in his chest as it rings true, to an extent.  he brushes it off quickly, his eyes now firmly closed with no intention of opening them again anytime soon, and mumbles into the wool of remus’s jumper,  ❝  don’t be such a prick.  i’ll have you know i do not drool.   i am the perfect sleeping partner.  ❞   there’s a pause as he realises the double entendre in his words and a slow, shit-eating grin spreads across his face as he adds,  ❝  in more ways than one  !  ❞

               HE’S STILL REELING   !     ever since the words printed across the rear view mirror of the sheriff’s car registered in his vision three hours ago, clear as day, stiles has been doing nothing but reading.  he has never felt so much joy from the tedious ideas presented by his physics textbook. it’s only when he has read for too long, and his eyes are tired and pain-pricked that he puts down the book and steps out of the mess of papers and books and printed-out websites surrounding him and leaves his bedroom, rushing downstairs and out of the house with only a brief goodbye thrown towards his father in the kitchen.

                  when his jeep screeches to a halt outside scott’s house, stiles takes that as enough of an announcement of his presence, and rushes straight through the front door and up the stairs, calling scott’s name as he does so. limbs flailing, he finally comes to a stop in scott’s doorway, his gaze quickly finding his best friend, his eyes alight with excitement for the first time in a while.
