More D&D critters! This time two raptors and three giant bats. Those little buggers can be used in a variety of scenarios. The raptors I got because my Druid wanted to be able to change into one. It can be a real challenge for a DM to have a beastshape Druid in the group when he wants to play with minis. But I was nice and allowed a raptor.

Anyway the raptors were made by "Wizkids" (https://wizkids.com) and the bats were made by "Reaper Miniatures" (https://www.reapermini.com).

Camazotz The Death Bat

Camazotz is a fearsome giant bat from Mayan folklore. The Mayans spoke of the bat as a fearsome animal who attacked humans. This is purely a legend, but all legends are based on fact. So what really was Camazotz, the “Death Bat?”

The common theory is that it was a bat called desmodus draculae, which is a cousin of the common vampire bat. Nicknamed the “Giant Vampire Bat” this species of bat was 30% larger than its cousin. Some even believe they became large enough to feed on humans. The first fossils of desmodus draculae were discovered in 1988. The skeleton of the animal was dated and was determined the remains were very recent. Recent enough that it was suggested that the bat actually isn’t extinct and has coexisted with humans for quite some time. Sightings of giant bats in Latin America are nothing new and have occured throughout the 1900′s. In some cases eyewitnesses of giant bats say the animal had a beak on it. These descriptions lead to the theory that Camazotz isn’t a bat at all but actually a surviving pterosaur. The appearance of a bat and a pterosaur are quite similar and the prehistoric animal could be misidentified as a bat especially since the pterosaur is supposed to be extinct.

Is the death bat truly a giant bat? Or was Camazotz just simply desmodus draculae? Could pterosaurs be resposible for sighting of giant bats? The truth behind the legend of Camazotz may be lost to history, yet rare sightings still happen to this day.

Creatures of A Red Moon Night by Lutfi Shedraway Via Flickr: I had this idea in my head about a theme for this year Halloween. So I sketched a bit of it, cartoonish like on a paper, and scanned it to have it digitized. Then I worked with the AI program through a whole lot if iterations to get the color and the figures to the way I like. This photo is made by me, myself, AI and I (😇) working it for quite some time till I get it to the photo it is now. The only real thing in this photo is the moon, I took it, years ago, in Lebanon on the Mediterranean Sea and then through color layer and red brush, I painted it, reddish like moon, to be like a blood moon.
