GIANTS MONSTER SERIES 1: WRAITH

Our first resin kit is printed and ready! I'm very excited to show you the Wraith prototype! For me, it is a thing of pure magic to see how a sculpture made on a computer, a digital file, can gain a physical form. It would never cease to amuse me... But here it is. For this model, I wanted a little base with a mini diorama to display, although you can put the monster wherever you want without it. Also, you may notice the little hole in the base. Let's say it would make sense in the future... I'll show you more about this figure soon! We at GARGANTUA want to announce the pre-order date later this October, so stay tuned. In the meantime, here's a sneak peek at our fully painted proto.

What's a kaiju if it doesn't have another one to fight with?

That's why we created Sheik, the main opponent of Wraith! Well, technically speaking, Sheik's origin comes from a comic series called GIANTS (as we pointed out with Wraith), but we had to create his sculpture anyway, so there's that.

As with Wraith, we had the original reference sculpt by GIANTS's co-creator Carlos Valderrama, so we started posing him. He had to recreate the splash page scene from the first comic, so that was the starting point.

Then, the slicing part of the process. Sheik is BIG. We had to cut it into various parts so he could get inside the printer!

And yep, that gap on both Wraith's and Sheik's bases? Absolutely they were to stick them together! Now they have the ultimate diorama!

The prototype had some challenging elements, like the size and the little spikes covering Sheik's body (they're a bug-like parasite called thornticks), but we didn't have too much trouble assembling him. Also, we had to try whether the crane was better as a hollow grid or solid, and we finally decided to make it solid for durability reasons.

Now Sheik had his own custom base!

We couldn't help but to face these two behemoths together once we had Sheik ready!

With Sheik and Wraith finished, we can offer a two-pack with both monsters as a digital file model kit. Loot them together or separately!

Wraith -- Our first monster! This creature is a kaiju from the GIANTS comic series from the Valderrama Bros. A giant behemoth that dwells on the frozen landscape of a derelict city. The world entered a new ice age and the humans hid underground, so now the surface belongs to these gigantic animals.

Our intention was to embody this majestic design with the utmost respect, so we used the same digital sculpt made by Carlos Valderrama to bring Wraith to life. And because it was filled with details, we had a lot to work with. The only thing was adapting some of those smaller parts (like teeth and claws) so they could work fine in a printed model kit.

Oh! And a giant monster is nothing without a good old city to rumble! We created a custom base for Wraith with some crashed buildings just as he appeared in the comic.

Then, we sliced the sculpture so we could print the different elements separately.

The first prototypes work pretty fine! We started to join all the pieces together with putty so the seams weren't so noticeable.

And of course, then came the best part: painting the model! First some black priming and then a coat of grey. We first started with the buildings so we could establish the general tone.

And then Wraith. Because the design is so elegant, we didn't need lots of colors. It had to be simple yet striking. We were very happy with the results!

And once we put Wraith with the base... Totally magical...

And this was all the process for this Model Kit! We learned a lot doing it, and we think it's a very cool piece if you are a fan of GIANTS or just simply adore new original kaiju.
