toronto 'haunt' spots (a series 👻) the gibraltar lighthouse is the oldest one left on the great lakes, and the second oldest in canada. it was built in 1808 and guided ships to toronto's harbour, from what was then a sandy peninsula, until it was decommissioned in 1958. the first lighthouse keeper, jp rademuller, a german immigrant to upper canada, disappeared under mysterious circumstances on january 2, 1815. there are a couple of different variations to how the story goes. one being that rademuller was a bootlegger who would sell his alcohol to soldiers stationed at fort york. on this particular evening it is told that he either cut-off some soldiers (or may have sold them some shoddy booze) to which they did not take kindly. rademuller was killed, and dismembered that night. his body was then buried in a few graves, near the lighthouse. his ghost is said to still haunt the site to this day 👻👻👻 #torontohauntspots #ghoststories #spookyseason #gibraltarlighthouse #torontoislands #toronto (at Gibraltar Point Lighthouse) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGcGe-pJ80P/?igshid=lxeggp5lwiom
