Simone Giertz - Why you should make useless things

Maybe it was her lipstick applying robot. Or her terrifying vegetable-chopping death machine. Or the robot that tried its best (and failed wonderfully) to feed her breakfast.
Chances are good you’ve seen one of Simone Giertz’s ridiculous creations, be it on the Colbert show or GIF’d into your newsfeed. As the “Queen of Shitty Robots” (her words!), she’s mastered the art of taking an idea for a…

As Simone Giertz continues to recover from brain surgery she underwent to remove a non-malignant tumor, she’s updating fans on her progress as honestly as possible.
Since the “shitty robots” YouTuber’s procedure in May, she’s shared several photos of her “super villain scar,” but on Friday, the 27-year-old got real about her progress.
In an emotional post, Giertz shared a serious photograph of herself, apologizing to fans for her recent silence.
“Sorry for the silence. I’m okay. Just not as okay as I’d like to be yet,” she wrote.
Giertz has managed to keep her classic sense of humor going strong since surgery by comparing her recovering self to Gollum, wearing reassuring t-shirts, and spreading positivity whenever possible, so fans were quick to pile on the love and support after seeing the YouTuber use a more serious tone.
Many encouraged her to take all the recovery time she needs and thanked her for taking them along on the extremely personal journey.
That is an amazing and brave photograph. Bracingly honest. This is you. Rebuilding.
Just realize you are the world expert here. You did you. Nobody else did, nobody else could, nobody else will. Some guys showed up with bulldozers, but you’re the architect.

Take your time! Your health is the most important.
Also, that braid with the head-scar look is a rad aesthetic.

That’s a beautifully artistic photo. What an incredible journey you’re on. Thank you for taking us with you even a little. We wish you all the best.

Take your time, be kind and patient with yourself and your heart as you recover. This digital world is, for better of for worse, an unchanging, raging river of consciousness. It’ll still be here when you’re ready to wade back in. pic.twitter.com/CQ1VK95TA8

We are all so glad you’re even one version of “okay”. Thank you for keeping us posted but don’t feel bad about needing time to yourself.
