Gig Union Town Hall Panel 9.19.14

Over 60 Gig Union members -- everyone from illustrators and motion graphics artists, to coders, videographers and small business owners -- assembled together in Avocados and Coconuts’ airy Mission District headquarters to bear witness to each others experiences as freelancers.

I was the lead event coordinator. This projects tasks included:

Conceptualizing event theme / conversation 

Researching and inviting panelists

Producing event format

Coordinating and managing a team of 6 for day-of event

Co-producing the panel video (embedded)

The Gig Union Cheat Sheet is a peer-to-peer wiki designed for Gig Union members to reference local resources. They can also add their own expert advice and request new topics since the Cheat Sheet was developed as an open source wiki.

Project Management included:

Site concepting with Denise Cheng. 

Site build and coding management

Lead content writing and developing

Through BAVC, I hosted a Create-a-thon at Code for America June 4, 2015 where Gig Union members came together to develop more content for the site.

Gig Union is a project of Bay Area Video Coalition to support freelancers in the Bay Area. Gig Union’s goal is to provide resources, workshops, discussion, and community for creative freelancers to “go it alone, together.”
