I worked on pre-production, audio production, and assistant editing for this video. 

Boot Camp is an important introductory course developed by the Society of Neurological Surgeons (SNS) in the United States to provide fundamental knowledge to neurosurgery residents and is a requirement for new residents in the US. The model transfers information, experience and wisdom from mentors (experienced neurosurgeons) to students (new residents).

21 neurosurgery residents from Bolivia, Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Argentina completed the course.

This Boot Camp is the first one given outside of the U.S in October 2015.

Black Panther Party Audio Tour for Detour.com

The Black Panther Party for Self Defense changed the world with its militant expression of Black Pride and empowerment. This Detour will walk you through North Oakland's small Santa Fe neighborhood, where two college kids started a movement that fed pancakes to hungry kids, gave legal assistance to families, and carried enough guns to get them labeled “the greatest domestic threat to American National Security.”

On this Detour, you’ll visit the intersection where the Black Panthers became the first crossing guards to carry shotguns. You’ll flip through their favorite quotes from Chairman Mao, eat sweet potato pie baked at the site of their national headquarters, and hear directly from original Panthers like Emory Douglas and Bobby Seale. Plus you’ll get a first hand look at the fruits of the Panthers’ legacy--the modern day activists carrying on in their footsteps--and the economic forces that might wipe that legacy away.

Best of all, this Detour is set to the beat of the Black Panthers house band, an incredible group of Oakland musicians called The Lumpen.

I produced a story about a deeply rooted sisterhood that is thriving in a long standing after-school program called GIRLS 2000. Photographed by Astra Brinkmann. 

The story aired June 18 2015 and I performed the story live as part of Sights and Sounds of the Bayview June 19 2015.

Gig Union is a project of Bay Area Video Coalition to support freelancers in the Bay Area. Gig Union’s goal is to provide resources, workshops, discussion, and community for creative freelancers to “go it alone, together.”

Third Coast Audio Festival Short Docs

My good friend Ian Davis and I collaborated on these two pieces for the Third Coast Audio Festival Short Doc Competition. Both pieces were featured on PRX Remix.

I conducted the interviews and did preliminary edits; wrote and voiced the scripts; and gathered ambient sounds for the pieces.

Gig Union Town Hall Panel 9.19.14

Over 60 Gig Union members -- everyone from illustrators and motion graphics artists, to coders, videographers and small business owners -- assembled together in Avocados and Coconuts’ airy Mission District headquarters to bear witness to each others experiences as freelancers.

I was the lead event coordinator. This projects tasks included:

Conceptualizing event theme / conversation 

Researching and inviting panelists

Producing event format

Coordinating and managing a team of 6 for day-of event

Co-producing the panel video (embedded)

I provided voiceover narration for 10 tutorial videos explaining how the AV Compass works and how you can use it to take initial steps in preserving your audiovisual collection. The video’s also outline the steps involved in the preservation process. Each video is between 1:30 to 3 minutes long.

The Gig Union Cheat Sheet is a peer-to-peer wiki designed for Gig Union members to reference local resources. They can also add their own expert advice and request new topics since the Cheat Sheet was developed as an open source wiki.
