Gigout - Toccata, from 10 Pieces for Organ (1890)
His name is not very well known, but Gigout was an organ composer who had studied alongside Fauré. This toccata is the most famous thing he wrote, probably because it is technically more simple than other toccatas but still has an impressive sound to it. It takes advantage of the gorgeous colors the organ can produce, and it is super light, touching on different harmonies as it goes along the pattern’s repetitions. The build up to the end is fiery and the last chords are grand so it makes for a good recital showpiece. Listening to French organ music makes me think of gothic cathedral architecture and yeah I know that’s super cliche but it does come to mind, an image I have been obsessed with since I was in high school...stained glass windows, columns, a quiet, solemn, and sacred space where the music fills you with awe.

I believe this must be one of the most amazing organ works that exists today.
Eugene Gigout (1844-1925) - Toccata in b minor on Synthesizer. Originally for Organ, composed in 1890, but here performed electronically, and elegantly beautiful too.
