Twee werken op de Summer Exhibition fascineren me bovenmate.

Allereerst is er It takes a village to raise a child door Giles Walker. In de catalogus van de tentoonstelling wordt dit werk omschreven als een kinetische sculptuur. Op een stoel staat een jongen, bloot bovenlichaam, een zak over zijn hoofd. In zijn hand houdt hij een bosje elektriciteitsdraden en ook uit zijn navel komt een aantal van zulke kabeltjes. De jongen schudt zijn hoofd heen en weer en brengt zijn arm omhoog. Hoe ik het werk precies moet duiden, weet ik nog niet. De zak over het hoofd roept associaties op met een executie. Het onderscheid tussen mens en machine lijkt een essentieel thema. En dan is er nog de titel! Hoe het ook zij, zeker is dat dit kunstwerk me buitengewoon fascineert.

Dat geldt ook voor een ander werk: Facebook turns 18: Coming of age in a digital world door Jemma Gowland. We zien een groep jongeren. Ze zijn allemaal voorzien van een mobiele telefoon en lijken te worden aangestuurd door een chip. Alle jongeren dragen een masker voor het gezicht.  De associaties liggen voor het oprapen: In hoeverre kun je als jongere in dit digitale tijdstip nog zelf keuzes maken? In hoeverre kun je op internet jezelf zijn en in hoeverre ben je daar echt? Een boeiend kunstwerk dat stof tot nadenken geeft.

This is my favourite thing of Giles’ (first pic), probably, but he’s more known for the pole-dancing CCTV-head robots (second pic), afaik

Having completed the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) flight training, achieving Permission for Commercial Operations (PfCO); Will Sutherland, of W.Sutherland Construction Ltd. approached me to collaborate on a promotional film to demonstrate the capabilities and picture quality achievable by UAV/Drones, for the purpose of aerial surveying and inspections. The film contains footage captured by the DJI Inspire 1 V2, the DJI Phantom 4 (capturing 4K @ 29.97fps) and the DJI Phantom 2 with Zenmuse H3-3D Gimbal & GoPro Hero 4 Black (capturing 2.7k @ 50fps) Flight and filming was carried out by Will Sutherland and myself. Post-pruduction editing, text graphics and colour grading was carried out by myself, using FCPX.
