In every new job I got to... the first couple of days I think I'm going to be fired, I really do. - Gillian Anderson
Gillian herself was nominated for four Emmys as Drama Actress (winning in 1997), nine SAG Awards, including three as part of the show's ensemble (winning twice as TV Actress in 1996 and 1997), and four Golden Globe Awards (winning in 1997), achieving the rare feat of winning the Golden Globe, SAG and Emmy trifecta in the same year.
In 1996, she was chosen as the world's sexiest woman by FHM magazine's readers; this Christmas she will be bald and on fire as Miss Havisham in the BBC's adaptation of Great Expectations. So what made her take this role? Anderson bristles: "That's not really a serious question, is it? The real question is, 'How the fuck did I end up as the world's sexiest woman in 1996?' – not why would I do Great Expectations. Any actor would want to do Great Expectations. I never set out to be the world's sexiest woman." - Gillian Anderson
I think, that only 5 per cent of actors are working at any one time. My father gave me a lecture at one point when I was younger and told me that I shouldn't be an actress because I should probably get a real job, and that I should go into - what was it back then; computers were really young? - it was word processing. - Gillian Anderson
Recalling her amazing awards success, "I think I've always had trouble in my life with feeling the importance of the moment, and I think that had certainly come into play at the time" - Gillian Anderson.
At the end of the session as she’s [Gillian Anderson] putting on her coat to leave, she says, ‘We never talked about Shadow Dancer’. I remind her that I tried and she’d had little to offer. ‘That was your cue to ask me more probing questions,’ she says. My fault again.
The Observer, Sunday 9 October 2011...
The last time I cried was yesterday. My younger brother Aaron is dying, and I'm currently back at home with my family. It's an extraordinary time. - Gillian Anderson
