That's Our Thing!

Posted for the @glimbowweek prompt of the same name.

When Bow started coming to Bright Moon regularly, Angella insisted he needed protective gear. She’d tried for years to get her daughter to wear some without success but the boy was intimidated enough by her angelic presence to actually listen to her and he agreed because, well, it’s not like he could ask his dads to get him proper archery gear when they didn’t even know about any of it. So the royal tailor and armory kept him in sensible clothes and armored plating to protect him on their various rebellion adventures.

Which is how the matching outfits started. The royal tailor already had his measurements anyway. And there are SO MANY fancy events a princess is supposed to appear at, balls and weddings and whatevers, but they were all so BORING! But if she could bring Bow, make a game of it with the matching and dancing and traditions like ice cream after, well, that would make it a bit more tolerable, wouldn’t it?

And once she got started, why not keep going? Matching boots, matching formal-wear, matching pajamas for sleepovers. Why not? It’s not like the tailor was really going to argue with the princess and Angella and Casta both thought it was adorable. And a possessive, petty part of Glimmer that had sat through far too many of these events awkwardly by herself liked that it was a visual reminder to everyone who passed that this was HER friend, here with her and she was NOT alone.

Bow was the one it took the longest to come around on it. Because armor was one thing, but he felt weird taking this many gifts from Glimmer’s mom, especially because Glimmer seemed determined to dress him as fancy and royal as her. He was NOT a princess, thank you very much! He was perfectly fine being just a regular guy!

But when he saw how happy it made his best friend, he relented. Glimmer always loved doing makeovers! And, over time, he fell in love with the traditions, the way it brought them together and cemented their connection. It was their thing, and he loved everything about them, including this.
