A Gintama episode a day keeps the ending away...Episode 12
MY 5 FAVORITE MOMENTS IN EPISODE 12 (manga chap 4):
aka the Catherine episode. There were differences in the anime from the original chapter, thus I tried to pick from those moments.
1) Gintoki’s very imaginative intro to Edo...I might prefer it over Shinpachi’s usual one.
2) Pachi-kun flipping out on Gintoki being an irresponsible adult was not in the manga. He sounded like a wife berating his husband, perfectly exemplified by this line.
3) This scene was definitely made funnier in the anime by the sound effect of Gin-chan’s finger breaking and his screaming.
4) This moment, when he first meets Otose, usually breaks my heart whenever I see it in the manga because I always think of what led him to get to this state and how it was probably self-imposed because even though he wanted to die, he couldn’t bring himself to actually take his own life since that would going against what his teacher wanted. In the anime Gintoki doesn’t look as bad but it was still a heartaching scene to watch.
5) He still looked so young...and his bent over posture, as if he could even barely hold himself up just made my heart hurt. Bless Otose for taking in this orphan.
SHIPS TALLY:
Gintoki x Otose: if you ship them, I support you, even though I cannot board.
Gintoki x Catherine: this was a weirdly romantic moment that was not in the manga and honestly, nope for me, but if you ship them, congratulations?
Gintoki x Shinpachi: it was like watching a married couple bickering about the same old issues...how to raise their daughter, Kagura.
Disclaimer: Gintama is not only about shipping. Gintama is hilarious, clever, exciting, poignant, heart-breaking, loving, brilliant, and just completely unbelievably amazing. It is only due to Sorachi-sama’s immense generosity that I am able enjoy Gintama on an extra another level, the shippy level, and I am forever grateful for that. GINTAMA IS LIFE AND LOVE.
