The Other Kryze Girl - Update
Well, so much for “I’ll be finished by the end of this week for sure”...
This week kind of sucked. It was the first week of school after fall break and I’ve recieved several messages of “Sorry, Ms Grey, but I’m in quarantine.” About half of those students have tested positiv for SARS-CoV-2, the other half have been quarantined because they were in direct contact with someone who was tested positiv. Several of my students have been in school at least one day before they got the news. So, chances are that they themselves had contracted SARS-CoV-2 by that time and might already have been infectious. While sitting in class. Without much space between them and their classmates. Woohoo...
And the consequences of that are...a whole lot of administrative work for me as their Klassenlehrerin (sort of a home room teacher with additional work to it), our principal and vice principal, and the office staff. Apart from that? Nothing. Nothing! Sometimes, classes are sent home for the rest of the day or maybe have to stay home for a day, but are ordered back to school by the local health department on the next day. And teachers? We don’t even get sent home. You were in contact with a person that was tested positiv? Well, too bad. Go teach. Honestly, in this pandamic, the lives of teachers and students are as cheap as dirt. And it pisses me of! (Obviously.)
And then? Then I have to listen to students making plans for the weekend, planning which party to go to. I mean honestly, guys? Have you learned nothing?
And now? Now Germany and several other European countries are going into a second lockdown. But not the schools, oh no. “Children are not a significant factor in this pandamic.” No, CHILDREN are not. But everyone old enough to go out and party, to actively ignore the rules, is. Be they fifty or fifteen, it doesn’t matter. Argh...
Sorry, for ranting. This apparently needed to come out.
I’ll go back to writing and will hopefully be finished by the end of this week. Stay safe guys!
