It's a festive time of year and the builders are taking a break from construction to enjoy the Southern Hemisphere's warm weather and sunshine. The studio is at a point now where almost every surface has been covered three or more times. It's impressive just how much material goes into building a studio properly to achieve maximum isolation and treat the room to avoid colouring the music.
To give you an idea of the amount of materials used, take a look at your house. Now triple everything including the stud walls so that you can achieve acceptable isolation between the studio spaces. You now have enough to build a studio.
Last time I left you with the beginnings of the internal framing being covered with 22mm Structafloor. Here is the main performance space totally covered, behind the Structafloor between each stud is Tontine, also known as Rockwool. The pack in the middle of the floor is one of three that has been used to cover the internal space of one room a second time and is the surface you can see in picture 4.
This is a view back towards the covered in Control Room with the skylight above.
Then the inside of the control room was covered in 22mm thick Chipboard over 22mm thick Structafloor. All the while the electrical wires for lighting and mains-powered appliances have to be brought through the walls and ceiling.
This is the main studio after being covered in the 22mm Chipboard. The absorber hanging in the middle of the ceiling is at the stage before being partly covered with split pine logs to create a diffusive surface.
I selected a Jarrah hardwood floor as it is possibly one of the hardest woods available, and since I expect traffic consisting of heavy amps and pianos on casters, I figured the harder the better. In the shot below you can also see the massive multi-membrane broadband absorber extending from the drum hut along the back wall.
And again all the way across the back and side wall. Note the log diffuser on the roof has begun to be filled in!

Here's one for the physics nuts. The Schroeder diffuser is installed at the back of the control room! You can also see the log diffuser above the critical listening position.
Most of the above photos have been taken after dark so the one below gives you an idea of how much light the skylight is able to cary into the venue. The main entry to the studio is also open, but the two outer most doors will be glass panelled and will allow some extra light in too.
These are the glass doors into the now treated vocal booth, the black box above is the return air-conditioning vent from the main studio.

An extra wall is erected around the perimeter of the Control Room along with a noise lock to seal the structure from airborne noises.
This is the ramped "Goods Entry" where a workshop is planned to be made along the side wall for repairing cables and instruments.
The photo below gives a good idea of how many layers are used in construction of the studio walls.
