Breakfast//GingerCactus//
Jared Kelly awoke with a small start, the rising sunlight poking in through the blinds, the room still dark with glowing bits here and there. He brushed his dark grey-and-blond hair from his hazel brown eyes and rolled over, gazing upon the sleeping face of his fiance.
Zach’s eyes were closed, his eyebrows furrowed and lips parted in a serious expression that did not match his conscious self, as he was usually upbeat and lively. His ginger hair was let down and drifted over his bare shoulders, freckles dancing across his face like little stars.
Smiling, Jared slipped from the bed and dressed, tugging his sweater on over his head and pulling on shorts, not bothering with his boxers.
Rubbing his eyes tiredly, he walked into the kitchen and started making breakfast, heating up a skillet and cracking open a few eggs.
On the windowsill were several small cacti, Jareds’ favorite. One of them had little flowers among the pricks, giving off a sweet smell as he leaned foward and breathed deeply.
“Almost as pretty as you.”
Jared yelped and whipped around, only to be greeted with Zach’s laughing face, his hair loosely pulled up in a ponytail and wearing only jeans, his bare chest exposed.
Jared let out a sigh of relief and glared at him.
“You scared me,” he scolded, but all Zach did was smile and kiss him.
They were always perfectly entwined, the way Zach’s hands fit neatly into Jared’s every curve, how the shorter of the two could hear the other’s heart beating softly for them, how the morning air slipped in between breaths of kisses, fresh and sweet.
Jared ran his hands slightly over his partly-nude body, fingertips brushing every inch of his surface. Over his lightly toned stomach, up the small of his back, down his arms, feeling every pull and taut of his muscles.
“I’m gonna burn breakfast,” he murmured, pressing his lips to Zach’s collarbone.
“Then stop touching me, Jarebear, and make it.”
Jared giggled and pulled away, turning back and flipping over the eggs.
“Don’t ever call me that again,” he remarked, and Zach laughed.
