Have you seen Hard Candy? It’s not horror so much as a psychological thriller, but it’s my favorite movie.

Shading and highlights are a colossal pain in the ass. Are you having trouble with something specifically (the color of the shadows/highlights, location, etc) or just everything overall?

Everything tbh. I dunno what colors to use and how to make it not look like a random smudge or anything
