A Change of Heart // AU Lily & Narcissa

Narcissa’s eyelids were heavy, and she felt a strong desire to rest her head against the table top and rest for a few hours, but she forced her eyes to stay wide open, focusing on the flickering flame of the candle in front of her.

At this hour, The Leaky Cauldron was silent and dark, as most of its occupants were fast asleep.  Maybe agreeing to a meeting there had been a bad idea. The place was far too obvious, even if late at night, and if her family wanted to go looking for her, the inn would’ve been an obvious place to pick. She wondered if they’d attempt to make her go back if they found her, or simply kill her if given the chance. She was sure she’d already been busted off the family tree by then.

The sound of an opening door caused her to whip her head around towards the source of the noise. She eyed the figure with anticipation, hoping that they were the person who were meant to meet her there, and not someone else.

"A plan? I don’t usually work from plans. James always did. I usually, was one, to act on impulse." he glared as that obviously wasn’t going to help him in a serious situation like this. Oh why couldn’t he be like his name. "Lily, if they torture you, just say I know everything, at least then you’ll be safe."

Narcissa tutted impatiently. Frankly, she shouldn’t have explained her habit of arriving late – ‘fashionably late’ as her mother would say – to the other. She hadn’t considered the possibility of Lily following her example as a small revenge, at least not when they were dealing with a serious matter. She had put far too much effort into arranging a meeting with this man so they could get some useful information from him, and the other could not risk everything because of this small feud.

The woman adjusted the hat on top of his head, making sure that not one of her blonde locks escaped while balancing the excessive ornaments of her accessory. She liked to have her hair loose, but she didn’t want to risk being recognized. She hoped Lily had taken the same precautions, as her hair-color was much more attention grabbing that Narcissa’s. Then, again, Gryffindors were always so reckless.

“Don’t make me apparate to your house just to drag you here, Evans…” She mumbled to herself.
