You guys are honestly the best and I’m so happy that you enjoyed these so much. I hope you enjoy this part as much as you did the last two; this part does have a female reader due to certain circumstances, but if you would like a male version, just let me know and I’ll whip it up as soon as I can! So now, without further ado, here is Together At Last!
“(Y/N)?”
“Hey, Gil.” You smirked, “How’ve you been?”
Unable to stop himself, he sprinted towards you as quickly as possible, taking you into his arms and crushing you in the tightest hug. You chuckled, hugging him back as best you could under his grip.
Sighing, you rested your hand in his hair, “I missed you too.”
After a few moments of silence, Fairy Godmother cleared her throat, awkwardly scooting towards the two of you and separating you with a pointing stick that resembled her wand, “Alright, children, let’s leave room for kindness.”
At this, all of the villain kids- even Mal and Evie- cringed and gave her a look of confusion. Gil slowly backed away from you, only at the persistence of Fairy Godmother, and gave you a small smile. You smiled back, shooting a displeased look at the chipper woman beside you. When she saw this look, Evie piped up.
“Wait, you two know each other?”
“Know each other?” Freddie laughed, “I’d say it’s a bit more than that, wouldn’t you?”
Gil glanced at Freddie, and then at you. When you made eye contact, he blushed and bowed his head shyly. You smiled at the sight, cherishing the thought that all of that was yours; God, you’d missed that boy.
“I second that notion.” Claudine chuckled, smirking at the small scene.
Gil rubbed the back of his neck, glancing towards Ben and Fairy Godmother, “Shouldn’t we- um, shouldn’t we start the tour?”
“Yes!” Fairy Godmother cried, “Yes, we should! Children, if you’ll follow me, I will show you your new home: Auradon Prep!”
With those words and several eccentric waves of her hand, the headmistress lead the small ragtag group of teens through the massive castle which housed the school. As they walked, Gil found himself drifting closer and closer to you. You welcomed this, nudging his hand with yours encouragingly. Before the tour was even halfway over, your hands were tightly intertwined, Gil’s thumb rubbing affectionate circles against your skin.
“And now,” Fairy Godmother announced, “girls, if you would please follow Mal and Evie, they’ll show you the way to your dorms. Anthony, you’ll follow King Ben and Gil to do the same. That’ll be the end of your tour, and I will see you tomorrow at 9:00 for your first Remidial Goodness class. Welcome to Auradon Prep!”
At this, Gil glanced down at your hands sadly, knowing that this meant he had to let go. Sensing his distraught, you kissed his knuckles before letting go.
“I’ll see you soon, okay?”
Smiling a bit, he replied, “I’ll hold you to it.”
Anthony laughed, pulling on Gil’s shoulder, “C’mon man. Show us our rooms before getting one for yourselves.”
You rolled your eyes and waved goodbye at the boys before following the ladies to the girls’ dorms. Gil watched glumly over his shoulder as you left. He’d just got you back, he wasn’t ready to let go of you yet, even if it was just for a few minutes. You glanced back at him, smiling before disappearing from view. Lord knows there were not enough words in the English language to describe how much Gil loved that smile. He was about to turn back to the group when a voice interrupted his thoughts.
“You really love her, don’t you?”
“Yeah, Ben, I really do.”
Anthony cooed mockingly, earning him a death glare from the young son of Gaston, “I’m serious. I love her, and there is nothing you- or anyone- can say or do that’s gonna change my mind about that.”
Rolling his eyes, Anthony defended himself, “We’re villain kids, Gil. We don’t get love. We don’t get happily ever after.”
Ben’s face fell at this, but Gil spoke up before he could say anything, “Harry loves Uma. Uma loves Harry. Evie loves her boyfriend Doug, he loves her too, Mal has Ben, and I have my (Y/N). ‘We don’t get love’, my ass, Anthony. That’s bullshit. We all get love, it’s just that you don’t have the balls to go out and find it.”
Before a fight could start, Ben smiled and pitched in, “Besides, that’s part of why I wanted you to come here. Maybe your parents don’t get love, maybe they don’t get happily ever after, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have that. Just because they’re your parents doesn’t mean you should be robbed of your chance at happiness.”
Anthony glanced between the two boys in front of him, before finally looking at Gil, “What has this place done to you?”
“Believe it or not, it wasn’t this place.”
With that, Gil turned- fists clenched- towards the boys’ dorms and marched away. Ben quickly followed, gesturing for Anthony to do the same so they could show him his dorm. When they arrived, Ben had Gil stay in the hallway as he wrapped up a few things with Anthony. After he finished, he closed the dorm door, turning to face Gil.
“You’re a great guy, Gil. (Y/N)’s lucky to have someone who cares about her as much as you do. No wonder you were so grumpy without her.”
“What can I say? I missed her.”
“Would you like to take her on a date?” Ben suggested.
“A date?” Gil’s eyes widened. You’d never actually gone on an official date, mostly just met up in secret. He had no idea if you’d even want to go on an actual date with him.
“Yeah, there’s this little wooded area not far from here that I take Mal to all the time. Not a bad place for your first Auradon date.”
After thinking about it for a while, the young son of Gaston nodded, “Mind showing me where it is?”
A few days later, Gil was seen sprinting through the castle, looking everywhere for you. A picnic basket bounced frantically in his hand as he ran from room to room searching for you. When he finally found you in the library, talking to Jane about a book series you’d found, he was entirely out of breath but excited nonetheless.
“(Y/N)!” He called, jogging towards you.
You said goodbye to Jane and walked towards him, meeting him halfway, “Hey, handsome. What’s up?”
“I was wondering if you wanted to go on a picnic with me?” Gil beamed, holding up the basket.
You laughed a little, “Gil, I’d love to! But, is there anywhere to picnic around here?”
A smirk playing at his lips, he took your hand, “I know a place. Come on.”
After a bike ride and quite a hike, you finally came to a small structure at the edge of a pond, perfect for a picnic. Gil laid out the blanket and helped you sit down. He pulled out dish after dish, showering you in all the finest foods he could find in the castle. As you ate, the two of you layed on the blanket he’d brought, staring up at the clouds and laughing at each other’s jokes. When the laughter died down, however, you couldn’t help but say what was on your mind.
“People talk, you know.”
“Of course I know that.” Gil replied confidently, repeating the words that his Uncle LeFou had always told him, “The only question is, what are they talking about and why does it matter?”
“It matters because they’re talking about you, Gil.”
“They are, are they?”
“Yeah.” you sighed, rolling on your side to look at him, “They tell me you’re a grump.”
“A grump?” Gil asked, arching an eyebrow at you.
“Mhm. They said you did nothing but sulk since you got here. They said you never walked faster than a sluggish jog. Some people were convinced you were incapable of smiling.”
He grunted quietly in response, playing with your hands to avoid looking you in the eye.
“I didn’t believe a word they said, solely because it was you we were talking about. If it was Harry, maybe I would have given them the benefit of the doubt- but you? No way in hell. But then the stories kept coming. First it was just 2 people, then 8, then 19, then 30. More and more people told me the same story- the story of the happiest boy on earth becoming the world’s biggest pessimist- and suddenly it got harder to ignore. The more people told about it, the harder it got to write it off as just people messing with me. It got me wondering: Why would the most optimistic boy I know, the boy who was the polar opposite of the Isle and would have done anything to leave, suddenly become melancholy once he was finally free?”
Gil stayed silent, face falling more and more with every word you said, and fiddled with your hands- which were now intertwined with his.
You sighed, placing your hand under his chin and gently forcing him to look at you, “Gil, sweetheart, don’t hide from me. I want to help you, but I can’t if you don’t talk to me; why aren’t you happy here?”
After a long, sullen silence, he replied, “Weren’t.”
You furrowed your eyebrows, “Pardon?”
“The right question would be ‘why weren’t you happy here’.” Gil sighed, turning to face you properly, “Because you’re right, I wasn’t happy before. I am now, and now I always will be.”
“What changed?”
“Honestly, the company.” Gil chuckled, offering a small smile and hoping you understood what he meant.
You frowned for a bit, trying to process what he was telling you, “Me? You weren’t happy here… because of me?”
The boy before you nodded sadly, “(Y/N), you know I’ve always wanted to get off of that godforsaken island, but the guilt was something I never expected. Don’t get me wrong, this place is great and I love it here, but it was so hard to enjoy any of it when I’m walking around heaven knowing you’re still stuck in hell. I just couldn’t get it out of head, the thought of you stuck on the Isle with everything we’ve ever hated and no one to help me through it. I couldn’t help but think it should have been you here, not me. If one of us was going to experience heaven, it should have been the one of us that’s an angel…”
You gaped at him in shock. You knew he loved you, but you never knew how highly he thought of you until now.
“Gil.” You sighed, brushing your hand lightly against his cheek, “You really think that? About me?”
He smiled slightly, “I know it’s dumb to hope that someone like you would feel the same way about an oaf like me, but I love you, (Y/N), more than anything- and I’m not fucking hiding it. Not anymore.”
You grinned at him, blushing madly, “And here I thought you might have forgotten about me. I love you too, Gil, more than you’ll ever know… and you’re not an oaf.”
He chuckled before cupping your face in his hands, “Can I kiss you?”
You nodded almost immediately, still in love with the fact that he asked you for consent before every single kiss. With your approval, Gil closed the gap between you and kissed you passionately. He kissed you like you were the only two people in the world. He kissed you like it was your first kiss- or your last. He kissed you until neither of you could breathe, and when you pulled away for air, he said the words that would stay with you for as long as you lived:
“I will never forget you, (Y/N), and I am never leaving you behind again.”
