There is no theme for April. It's my birthday month so my wife insisted on me picking the games. That means we're just playing things I've been meaning to get around to for a while...like since 2012 in the case of Ginkgopolis. A Wild Venture is brand new and was supposed to be paired with a different game. However, once I read the rules for Pret-a-Porter, I didn't want to play it anymore so we switched on the fly.
Ginkgopolis was worth the wait. A city builder of sorts, one where you can build out or up. Resource management is essential, especially in later rounds as building costs increase. We did not have a great handle on the best balance between playing cards for resource gains and building outward and upward. More plays will help with that and there will be more plays.
A Wild Venture is that rare two player head-to-head game we actually enjoyed. Don't get me wrong, we plan to try the solo once we print out the rules but this was still a fun time. The art feels very Adventure Time. The cards are fun to read and also fun to play. This is a combotastic game. You only get two actions but, play your cards right and you can chain more actions together for big turns. Also, the art is just so charming. It's why I picked it up in the first place. The combotastic card play is a real bonus. We both very curious to see how the solo plays.
