Damn Beautiful

He’d met her as a bandit; a thief. And while she’d been after his jewels, she’d made off with his heart instead. She’d been different; then full of wild hair as she raced through the forest, now a princess as fair and composed as the name would suggest. He loves the gowns and the way she fixes her hair - loves even more the anticipation of unlacing those gowns, of pulling the pins free and watching those ebony curls cascade down her bare back. But the sight of her in riding breeches, her hair caught up in the wind - wild - stirs something within him and makes his heart race. She’s always lovely, but she’s damn beautiful when she’s in her element; when she turns and smiles wickedly at him, the sunlight spilling across her face.

“Can we stop?” she asks, indicating where the stream they’ve been following dead-ends to the bottom portion of a waterfall. “I’m thirsty.”

Judging by the sun, there isn’t much daylight left, but their mounts could use some rest. “Only a quick rest though,” he agrees, urging his horse toward the water. “We don’t want to be out too late after nightfall.”

They pull their steeds to the stream, tying them up to drink and graze. Snow takes a long drink and he follows suit, letting the cool water pool between his palms.

“What?” she teases. “Don’t think I can take care of you?”

He splashes her in retaliation, grinning in spite of himself. And, instead of splashing back, she smiles - that mischievous expression that has been his downfall time and time again - and grabs him by the shoulders before kneeing him directly in the gut.

He’s been here before of course, the deja vu taking a few seconds to register, and in that time, he manages to fall head over heels into the water.

Snow laughs - of course she laughs, eyes alight and cheeks flushed. The sun has warmed her skin, kissed her cheeks and the swell of her breasts, just above the edge of her bodice. She’s so beautiful, so absolutely stunning that when she offers her hand to help him out, he can’t help but pull her in instead.

She shrieks, and somehow it’s the loveliest sound he’s ever heard. Lovelier still is the look of exasperation on her face, the wet curls sticking to her skin. Her lips are warm and wet beneath his own as he pulls her close and kisses her.

“Charming,” she warns, barely pulling away. She’s likely meant to sound threatening, but instead he hears the laughter in her voice, bubbling just below the surface. “Now we’re both soaked.”

“You started it,” he replies smartly, and presses his lips to hers in a fleeting kiss.

“Mm,” she concedes, and he feels her melt against him, her arms winding round his neck. “But now we have to dry off before we can head back. Coming in like drowned rats is hardly befitting for a King and Queen.”

“But it’s perfectly suitable for a shepherd and a bandit.”

She smiles at that, and draws her thumb across his brow, his cheek, his lips. “I suppose you’re right.” She leans her forehead against his, and runs her fingers through his hair. “Though we should probably let our clothing dry. Wouldn’t want to catch a chill.”

He couldn’t agree more, in fact. And it has absolutely nothing to do with the way her wet bodice clings to her, nor the thought of what lies beneath. No, nothing at all.

… well, maybe a little.

His fingers tug at her laces, pulling the sopping fabric free of her skin. “That,” he says, grinning into another kiss, “can certainly be arranged.”
