Summary: The kids are out trick-or-treating and the married couple get some alone time.
Disclaimer: I do not own Gintama or any of its characters.
The night was still young but the darkness was so prominent, it almost felt like the outside world was never touched by sunlight, but instead ruled solely by the mystic glowing moon.
Otae sat silently, gaze fixed on the figure looming at the front door.
There he was. Standing still and stared at her with those deep bordeaux eyes almost like blood red. Then all of a sudden he was prowling towards her, silver hair gleamed in the moonlight the same way his sharp long fangs did.
“Rooooarrr!” Cried out the supposed lord of the night.
Otae clenched her hands to her chest as if in fear when the little monster in black cloak held up his taped-on card board predatory nails at her.
“Oh, that was really good. I think you scared me.”
The young boy tried to hold back a small smile, seemingly proud that he managed to frighten her. Liking the reaction he got, he went at her with his ‘claws’ again, roaring all the while.
“Vampires don’t ‘roar’. That’s what hairy big mutts do”
An amplified version of the boy came walking towards them, peeling the wrap off a chocolate ball before popping it into his mouth.
“Gin-san. Is that the treat we are supposed o give to the children tonight?”
Otae turned to him, her voice sweet and suspiciously calm; and he almost couldn’t react fast enough, shoving the shiny yellow piece of paper into the opening of his yukata.
He muttered something along the line of ‘I only took a few’, but the rustle sounded from when he reached into his outer clothing made it easy to imagine more than just ‘a few’ sweet wraps hidden in there.
Well, what did that woman expect when she put a bowl full of modified sugar on the table?
Gintoki didn’t dare to say anything out loud though. He saw those shapely brows of hers twitched, but was saved by the small tug on his pants before anything unfortunate happen to him.
“What do vampires do then?”
Gintoki looked at the little boy before bending down so that he was sitting on his heels, face to face with his four years old son.
“They go ‘WAAAA’, like this” The older male spread out his arms and showing off his fangs like an almighty count would when confronting his prey, just not at all graceful in his squatting position.
His boy tried to follow suit. “waaaaaa”
“No, no. WAAAA” Gintoki wagged his finger while shaking his head lightly before giving another round of demonstration. The child tried for the second time and grinned gleefully when his father nodded in approval.
“That’s it kiddo. Remember, sweet hunting is no game. In trick or treating, you spook them and get the treat or you grab the candy and run. There is no middle ground”
Gintoki placed his hands on those small shoulders. Father and son stared at each other, understanding passing between them. In the end they both gave a nod of their heads, showing their mutual agreement.
Otae couldn’t help but smile at the sight.
Their son was so much like him, and she was happy about it in every senses. But maybe if he started picking his nose in public or lazying on the couch all day, she would need to have a talk with her beloved husband.
“Boo! Are you ready for the hunt young man?”
Kagura came in through the front door, newly brought Jack-O’-lantern baskets in hand. Trailing in right after her was Shinpachi who clearly thought that Twilight was still a thing; as he was clad in the same werewolf costume he had for the past six years, even though the hems of his hairy pants were already up half his shins.
“Almost” Answered Otae instead, holding back her child from running over to his aunt who was dressed as Okiku [1] for the night.
She redid the tie of her son’s cloak so that it was better secured around him and straighten up his black and red collar. The young Sakata looked up at his mother when she cupped his face with her hand, thumb affectionately stroking his cheek.
“Be good and listen to your uncle and aunt Kagura, okay?”
He held out his promise finger, to which she intertwined with her own before sending him off.
Gintoki wached the three of walked out the door with Sadaharu following right behind them and remembered that he had a point to make.
“Oi, you guys better bring back a lot of sweets, you hear?”
After the party have left for trick-or-treating, Otae brought out the dinner that Shinpachi has made earlier and sat them on the table.
It has been quite some time ago since it was only the two of them like this.
The young woman seated herself beside him on the couch just as she used to before their son was able to sit up on his own and join the table, his usual spot between his parents.
Without the younger members the place was oddly quiet, much so that she could almost hear his muscle tightened and relaxed along with his rhythmic breathing.
She was going to begin her meal when she felt his hand on her, slowly lowing the chopsticks back down. Otae turned to see that her husband had one of those rare loop-sided grins on his face and it made her heart rate quicken.
“I think dinner could wait. Now that the kids are gone..”
Gintoki moved closer so that their sides were practically touching each other, his body heat slowly warming her up on the inside. And she soon forgot about the delicious looking grilled mackerel on the table.
Forgot everything. Thinking and seeing and sensing only him.
She brought her gaze up to meet his wine coloured orbs; they gleamed with triumph and unmasked mischief and it sent waves of excitement down her spine.
When he inched his face closer to hers, Otae instinctively let her eyes flattered shut. Heart hammering in her chest and anticipation rushing through her veins as she waited.
With her head clouded, she could only imagine so much of what would happen next.
He would kiss her, fast and slow and lingering, until they were both out of breath. His warm lips would then trailed along her neck, pressing against the pulses that echoed through her skin.
Oh, he could, would, do wonderful things.
The young woman waited patiently but the touch she so yearned for never came.
Brown eyes then snapped open at the sound of ceramic clunk against wooden surface.
“We could have dessert before the main course”
Gintoki was grinning from ear to ear, looking like a child who has just been told that school was canceled for a week, between his hands was the bowl she had filled the sweets.
He was practically drooling as he stared at the sugary treats, completely unaware of the dark aura emitting from his dearest wife.
Gintoki who was feeling rather generous, willing to share the goodness in the bowl with his partner was met with unexpected pain and misery. He watched her stomped out of the room from his place on the floor, wondering what in the world did he did wrong.
If she wanted it all the sweets for herself, she could have just said so.
