LYNGK on #TabletopSimulator, with my brother back in Ohio. This is my least-played of the GIPF series by a lot; according to BGG I have only one play prior to today, but that seems wrong - I think I have 2 or 3 maybe, but low single digits for sure. So anyway, I had to relearn the patterns from scratch which for me is totally engaging. I like all the GIPF games a lot, but this one seems really very good. Very open, very tight, after a very short opening phase every move becomes high stakes. This is one of those games that when you go over the simple rules and colorful pieces it’s not clear how much depth there can possibly be, but then play peels away layers and layers. This is a bit brain-melty just because of the very large numbers of possible moves through the early and midgame, so you have to develop some heuristics. The dramatic arc of the GIPF games is usually pretty interesting: low-stakes openings followed by tension that steadily ratchets up until it hits a breaking point and the balance tips irrevocably in favor of one player of the other. I don’t know how well these would up to really serious play, but for me they really hit a sweet spot. #gaminginthetimeofcovid19 #gipf #gipfseries #lyngk #bgg #boardgamegeek #boardgames #virtualgamenight https://www.instagram.com/p/CCIBk3rB_Iq/?igshid=zidd9t45dsg0
