2025 Nobel Prize in Literature Announced!
The #NobelPrize in Literature 2025 goes to László Krasznahorkai, a Hungarian author celebrated for his “compelling and visionary body of work that, amid apocalyptic terror, reaffirms the power of art.”
Who is László Krasznahorkai? Born in 1954 in Gyula, a quiet town near Hungary’s border with Romania, he has long been a powerful voice in world literature. His debut novel, Sátántangó (1985), shook the Hungarian literary scene — a haunting tale of villagers trapped in despair, waiting for salvation that never comes.
The novel was later adapted into a 1994 film by Béla Tarr, now regarded as a cinematic masterpiece.
📖 His later work, The Melancholy of Resistance (1989) , cemented his global reputation. American critic Susan Sontag once called him “the master of the apocalypse.”
