✖—— How long had it been, since she last had a full night's worth of rest? With each day in passing, she carried herself apathetically, sluggishly. Even if she tried to sleep, her thoughts and dreams had a tendency to steer off in the wildest directions. Most commonly revolving around the White Fang-- harsh memories and future hazards reeling through her mind like film meant for a horror show. She curled up as though to comfort herself, knees tucked snugly against her chest and toes curling atop the mattress. Knowing well that reading by candlelight might wake her teammates, she simply sat as still as she could manage, staring at the underbelly of Yang's bed in the dark. Sulking the night away, thoughts strung in a tangle of danger.
Blake's ears twitched as they registered the sound of the floorboards whimpering beneath someone's tiptoeing feet. Despite the dark state of the unlit room, the young faunus could actually see quite clearly that it was Weiss approaching her bedside-- and thus a small sigh escaped through her pouted lips.
"Weiss? Aren't you tired...?" A hesitant pause spaced her words. In a rare state where she felt so tired that she couldn't tell if the Weiss she was seeing was a hallucination constructed from exhaustion. "You should go back to sleep."

The sky was a bright red as the sun began to set on the destroyed land. The air was still as the faunus wandered through the trees. She sat upon a thick limb waiting for something to pass by. It had been awhile since she had eaten anything. The day before, maybe? Food had been scarce since the White Fang had set off the bomb that wiped out most of the population of Remnant.
Blake believed her whole school had fallen victim to the collapse of Beacon. No one survived. The smell of blood and corpses had filled her sensitive nose. She had to get out of there. She had barely made it out of the burning building alive. She had several lacerations and burns, but she still had to move.
Soon she had made it to safety and was able to patch up her wounds. She had been feeding off of stray animals and plants as she found them. It was times like these when she was glad she had her training from the White Fang. She was successfully able to hunt and kill the small animals and find the correct type of plants without picking the poisonous ones.
Her exposed feline ears twitched as she heard leaves crunching underneath heavy footsteps. She reached around to grab Gambol Shroud, a familiar habit she had to get rid of since her weapon had been lost within the school. She perched on the branch and waited.

A long, long time ago, in a land far, far away...
The island of remnant has been one of contention, war, and beauty for as long as humans had set foot on the island. relatively small, yet abounding with natural resources, flora and fauna, the original familial clans that had founded the first city, vale, enjoyed prosperity and peace for years, coexisting in relative harmony.
That is, however, until the island revealed its true potential...
From the deep, uncharted forests of the center of the islands, came the black beasts. some called them grimm, but only after the first raid on one of the smaller cities, astoria, was left in a complete and utter wasteland. crops corrupted beyond repair, buildings pulverized, along with every single man, woman and child found dead in the streets, slaughtered without a care.
From then on, the clans tried to fight back against the nearly invulnerable force of the black beasts with whatever they had. cannon balls, blades, and arrows alike found the attacker's weapon broken rather than the intended victim.. for a time, humanity fell into despair and prepared for their imminent eviction from the island, watching settlement after settlement and village after village fall in the assault. until the emergence of 8 mystical animals that appeared in the nick of time.
The rose hawk, snow fox, sun lion, shadow lynx, oak tiger, lotus crane, moon bear, and the void raven were the eight godlike animals that emerged from the forests, and protected the last bastion of humanity. the black beasts were driven into hiding once more in the dark forests, and the mystical spirit-like animals fled to the stars, forming 8 constellations in the sky to accompany the shattered moon that humanity had always known. the seven clans that remained took to worship of these spirit animals, creating folklore and worship of each animal:
clan rose worshipped the free-spirited and always flighty rose hawk;
clan snow adopted the cleverness and affinity for the cold northern peaks that the snow fox called home;
clan sun took to the eastern grassy plains and connected with the strong-willed, fiery sun lion;
clan oak adopted the southeastern deciduous forests, home to the grounded and inspirational oak tiger;
clan lotus appreciated the grace and self-awareness of the lotus crane;
clan moon adopted the power and confidence of the moon bear, from the northwestern evergreen forests;
and clan raven, the newest and most untested clan at the time, drew towards the void raven's curiosity and intellect.
However, the eighth spirit animal, the shadow lynx, remained un-worshipped by the people of the slowly rebuilding human contingency, as it seemed to be too close to the obsidian nature of the black beasts which attacked them once, and could attack again. over time, strange tales began to circulate through many villages that young men and women of able body and mind were found missing the next day, with nothing to betray their whereabouts other than various small remnants of animal parts - a sharp fang left under a woman's pillow, or scraps of fur left on a dresser. these cases grew and grew, with seemingly no way to tell if sons and daughters were to ever come back again. no weapons were taken, no changes of clothes,
They feared that they escaped into the dark, cursed forests, where the beasts were surely to rip them to shreds. the townspeople, noble and peasant alike, began to curse the shadow lynx, treating it as an ill omen to have even existed. some of the more spiritual of the humans in the capital claimed that the shadow lynx represented the folly of man, that it was inevitable that even though we may all band togeter to repel evil and keep epeace, that there will always be the hint of darkness and corruption lurking in all hearts.
It got worse once the people of the fang revealed themselves - made up of the runaways, young men and women who thought themselves cut off or misunderstood from society. the runaways, the self-imposed exiles. what was stranger, aside from the fanatical worship of the shadow lynx's mastery of secrets and the night, was that all of the people of the fang now exhibited what appeared to be fully natural animal aspects of themselves. some had fangs that could easily pierce wood and even iron, some had skin that was harder than stone, and even more had tails of various kinds.
It took a long time for the people of the fang to cooperate with the other clans, and many forms of hostilities, not limited to an attempted genocide of the people of the fang by clan void, led by void warlord winchester. despite all of the atrocities, however, the majority of the fang clan did their best to respond to violence with non-violence, war with peace. the hostilities threatened to become a full-on civil war against the fang, until a wise politician from clan snow, put forth a call to action to stop the violence. under the beacon accord, the people of the fang were to call the edges of the untamed forests their official land, grant them the title of clan fang, and be incorporated into the humans' society. anyone who was to go against this accord with racial hostilities against the fang, signed by all seven pre-existing clan leaders over the deliberation of one week in mid-april, would be punished under the full extent of the law.
Once the fang became part of society, cracks and flaws began to appear in the surface of the seemingly perfect face of peace. while it was against the law to discriminate officially against clan fang, some of the more unscrupulous or dishonest clan leaders (such as clan snow, oak and void) began to reveal their true intentions. employing clan fang members in brutal, abusive jobs that functioned more like sweat shops or slave labor than anything else. this, combined with the distrust of the fang, due to their worship of the shadow lynx and some of the more extroverted members' duplicitous manners, led to what was known as the white fang revolution being born.
The white fang was the clan fang's movement to help establish a fully capable position of power on equal scale with the seven other clans, and at first gained many followers from both fang and other clans. non-violent protests, political statements and demonstrations all garnered very positive attention at first, until the shadowy leaders of the movement (separate from the clan's actual leader) began to turn to more violent and disrespectful methods of speaking out. arson, destruction of property, kidnappings and even murder were claimed in the name of the white fang's goal of equality for all...
As expected, popular opinion on the fang soured once again, though the official stance of the clan was that the movement had alienated itself from its original purpose, and therefore was to be regarded as not sanctioned by the beacon accord. to this day, at the start of this tale, the faunus are still treated with distrust and a sense of unsettlement by the general public, although the white fang's much smaller than it was at its beginning.
