Not many movie pick-ups this week but we did grab a copy of Gladiator 2
So yeah we finally went to see Gladiator II which I was surprised that they actually made being it was talked about for what 23-24 years? but I was excited to go see it being I do love the first one. fun fact Gladiator was the first DVD I ever bought when it first came out lol.
Now as for the movie of course I don't want to give too much away but I did love it. I enjoyed the movie alot as you probably know this focuses on Lucius (Paul Mescal) who is the son of Maximus (Russell Crowe) it takes place I think 16 years after the first movie and he has been living in hiding for many years but through a battle he ends up a captured slave and then becomes a Gladiator to get revenge on the roman general (Pedro Pascal) that lead the attack that killed Lucius's wife and through the movie he not only goes for his revenge but ends up fighting for the legacy of his father and what he tried to do for Rome.
I would have to say the movie is spectacular! The visuals, the sets and especially the action. the opening battle was amazing! and even the opening titles were visually cool were they recapped the first movie in this like animated oil painting style. but like I said the action and just shear scope of the movie itself was cool. with the action it was like trying to top itself they would do one thing then its like "what crazy thing can we do next?!" like the fighting the baboons and then the Rhino and the whole thing with the sharks! its just incredibly wild and fun, While at the same time wrapping it in this story of revenge and redemption.
I thought the acting was great especially form Denzel Washington he plays such an wickedly evil villain in this as he goes and tries to grab as much power as he can. but yeah everyone I thought did an amazing job. There of course is a tiny bit of action movie humor but mostly we got a kick out of some "monkey business" near the end of the movie and were making some monkey jokes back and forth and while on the way home from it. (you would have to see the movie to get Monkey stuff) but yeah I personally thought the movie was excellent and the people I went with to see it seemed to really enjoy it too.
So Yeah I'd say if you like the original I would definitely recommend this one. I'd say its bigger, badder and more brutal then the original movie.
