FANFIC - I Bloom Just for You

It starts with a sylleblossom.

More accurately, it starts with Luna visiting the only florist in Insomnia known to import flowers from other locales like Tenebrae or Galahd. It’s been an absolute nightmare of a week in the ER of Lucis General, and Luna wants… no, <em>needs</em> to take a moment to enjoy the simple pleasures in life.

Such as ordering a flower arrangement that reminds her of a home she hasn’t gotten to visit in years.

Luna parks her car, steps out, and regards the exterior of Amicitia Arrangements. It’s located in the upscale part of downtown, so like all the other surrounding buildings, it has a sizable striped awning and a charming adobe brick front. She smooths out her skirts—a meeting with the Board of Internal Medicine today and no time to change after means she’s a little overdressed for the occasion, but better to be overdressed than under—and heads inside.

The interior explodes into a lush, colourful paradise, complete with a pervasive yet pleasant floral smell. All visible surfaces are lined with various pots and planters, some with greenery and some with more decorative flowers. There’s a walk-in refrigerator tucked into the back left corner bursting with pre-made arrangements, and an exquisite, miniature tea bar adjacent to the counter. Right. Luna remembers reading in reviews that this is a combination flower and tea shop.

“Hey! How’s it going?”

Brave Enough To Love You

Notes: As always, my thanks to the amazing @aliatori for her beta-san eyes <3  This is set in a roleswap AU in which Gladio is the Prince, Luna is the Advisor, and Noct is the Shield. For @gladiorarepairweek day 7 prompt “Devotion”. Also fulfills the 100 days prompt “I believe in you.”

Blinking in surprise, Lunafreya reached to turn on a lamp. When did it get so late? She looked her watch and winced to find today had become tomorrow while she worked her way through her email queue. Well, the rest would have to wait for tomorrow. She would do Gladio no good if she was exhausted and running on coffee fumes and prayers.

After locking up her office, she made her way to the quarters granted her at the Citadel itself. While Luna was always welcome in her room at the Nox Fleuret home, she was grateful she had the option on unexpectedly late nights like tonight. Pulling her phone from her pocket as she waked, Luna typed out a quick email to Gladio that would be delivered an hour after his morning alarm, reminding him about the special fundraiser luncheon being held tomorrow for the Galahd relief effort. She was pretty sure that he remembered - Gladio made her job easy by being so attentive to his ever-changing calendar - but a reminder never hurt.

From her perch in the hayloft, Luna had an excellent vantage point from which to observe the pasture. The horses grazed lazily, and Luna smiled. None of them were probably hungry, the greedy beasts. Gracious knew she, and all the others, stopped by often enough with apples and other treats to supplement their foraging.

But truly, her focus was on the thoroughbred of a man who was sprinting along the outer perimeter of the field: Gladiolus Amicitia.

It was two years ago when Luna arrived at Astral Farms, all fair skin and dainty-looking hands, and boldly announced that she was there to work and help. Gladio had raised an eyebrow at Aranea, who’d been assigned with him as the “welcoming committee”, and then at the new arrival who had primly smoothed her skirt as soon as she got out of her sleek black car.

“What d’you know about farm work?” Aranea, ever practical and straightforward, had asked. She crossed her arms on her chest and stood with one knee slightly bent, a casual pose that looked nonetheless intimidating. At least for most people. And Lunafreya Nox Fleuret, Gladio soon found out, was not most people.

“Uncle Regis said y’all need a stable hand,” she’d replied, all mannerly Southern girl but with a hint of bite that made Aranea grin with approval. Looking back, Gladio would say this was the moment when he’d first felt the attraction.

“Name’s Gladio,” he rumbled and extended a hand for her to shake.

“Lunafreya. Luna for short.” Her grip had been firm, which surprised Gladio, and her fingers were rough with calluses, which surprised him even more.

“Hey, I’m Aranea.” After a quick and firm handshake, she jerked her thumb back toward the farm. “I gotta get back to the thresher. You got this, big guy?”

“Yeah, sure. Git!” He’d playfully slapped Aranea’s butt to shoo her away before he turned to Luna. “D’you wanna see the horses now or d’you want like a tour or somethin’ first?”
