That's one of the bigger complaints I've seen? Everyone is kinda dude in armor with weapon, which is a shame. Monsters are lovely, but there aren't many.

even dragons are a big naked dude with a flamethrower, essentially

i hear Scholar of the First Sin edition fucks players up by throwing in weird hard bosses that don’t fit that mold, in unexpected places

like, last i heard, they just dropped a hellkite drake into one of the earliest zones

for the same reason, i’m dreading the final boss(?) of sunken king because “poison fireballs” is somehow a thing it does

but in general its kind of a shame how we end up picking and choosing between Large Man and Projectile Animal

the only exceptions i can think of are Sif-style bosses where you have to get under their legs but they’re really fast and hyper-aggressive, or mob-style bosses where you just have to saw through a crowd and hit something important

the former is way more interesting than the latter, but that seems to be the hard limit on variety too
