Probably a batshit insane question (but I'm writing horror low-fantasy comedy so bear with me), but science/chemistry/glassmaking tumblr:

If availability wasn't an issue (you could find a large deposit somewhere) what would be the best metal, other than tin, to use in the production of float glass?

(Float glass is made by pouring molten glass onto a bed of molten tin, letting it even itself out, and then slowly passing it through a very long kiln for annealing so that it cools slowly enough (like 15+minutes) to break less often. I am thinking about replacing the tin.)
