The land of Sahnire (s ah neer), magic is outlawed. Anyone caught practicing magic (with very few exceptions) will face punishment, even death. This rule doesn't have much affect on the life of Corrinder Laville- or it wouldn't, if it weren't for one little thing...
The Ixajür (ee zah zh oo r) are a race of shapeshifters, their natural form being an inky humanoid figure, which earned them the common nickname of "Inklings". They're hated and feared by nearly every other species, leading them to hide what they are.
The Laville family are Inklings. They have a tradition, one that keeps them safe and hidden, and has for generations: every child must choose a form before the age of five, and must stay in that form for the rest of their lives. They can't afford any scrutiny, not with their high social status. If it was discovered that an Aristocrat family such as theirs were not only deceitful shapeshifters, but beings of inherent magic- it would be disastrous.
Corrinder (Cori for short) has lived this life of high-society secrets for years. He doesn't like being constricted to one form, but he does it for the sake of his family's safety; although, he often changed subtle things, like his eye color or the texture of his hair, just slightly when he gets bored of his appearance... which happens pretty often. That isn't his only problem, though. It may not even be his biggest...
Cori was born with a heart condition. Even with his family's wealth affording the best health care, including an in-house physician and assistant, his chances for a long life are slim. Medicine in this time wasn't overly advanced, after all.
With the threat of an early death constantly looming over his head, Cori decides to make the best of the time he has. He practices music, playing at any venue that'll take him. He's charismatic, but keeps his social circle fairly small, both for fear of his family's secret being discovered and because he wants to minimize the number of people affected by his imminent death (which he isn't doing a very good job of; everyone loves him, even if they don't know him personally.) For all his flamboyance and light-hearted joking, Cori isn't stupid or shallow by any means. He can be flirtatious and fun, but he's also logical and pragmatic, with the grim thought of his own mortality constantly looming in the back of his mind.
Quick facts:
• Cori's glasses are NOT a fashion choice; he genuinely needs those to see
• Although he's most practiced with a Viola, Cori prefers to play the lyre.
• pronouns are he/they
• biromantic asexual
• 5'7" tall
• Chaotic Neutral Bard and (hopefully) going to be a supporting character in a dnd campaign I want to run.
I sketched this and really liked it, so against better judgement I went ‘I WILL LINE THIS BC I SAID I WOULD’ And yeah the lines didn’t turn out anything like the sketch, but you know, I don’t hate the lines either. I decided to do nothing in terms of shading/extra lines, but kept everything super basic. Which I think helps me like it more, bc there were less opportunities for me to mess it up. >>
so have another sketch of an oc that’s part (a very small part actually) of the story I’m trying to work on. Honestly I think out of all the oc’s in the story, besides grandma and mom, she has the least amount of activity in it. But that might change once I get to her part and try and include her a bit more, bc overall I really do like her. /end babble here/
