Once In a Blue Moon

It was a Saturday, that first day, cold but clear with a weak winter sun shining down between the bare branches of the city park's trees. The chill in the air was only made worse by the chilly breeze, and Marco turned his coat collar up and blew on his fingers, wishing he had brought mittens or something in addition to his fingerless gloves. No one would want to hold hands with someone who had cold fingers after all, and he was supposed to be waiting to meet the blind date that his friend Jean and Jean's friend Eren (although perhaps "friend" wasn't quite the proper word; the two of them squabbled quite a lot and even got into a proper scuffle every now and again) had set him up with.
According to Jean, Marco worked too hard and didn't spend enough time on himself, both apparently cardinal sins in his book. Marco supposed that he did take on more shifts than the average officer at the city police station, but it was what he loved. Serving and protecting his community and the people in it had always been his biggest dream, and now that he was living that dream it was what he devoted the majority of his time and energy to. Finding a mate and settling down had always been something that appealed to him, but at the moment there wasn't much room in his life for romance. Unless there was some careful planning to balance his work and a potential relationship the lack of attention could be very unfair to the partner in question.
It had taken a month and a half of daily pestering from Jean about how he never took any time to himself as well as his eldest sister lecturing him about what a catch he was--tall, strong, handsome, healthy, and an Alpha besides--before he had agreed to go through with all of this. Now that he was here, however, Marco found himself pleased to have finally made the decision and looking forward to meeting his blind date. He had been given a name, Armin, and had been told that he was kind and intelligent and that both Jean and Eren were confident that the two of them would get along well. It wasn't much to go on, but despite his misgivings Marco had a fairly good feeling about the whole thing.
He had even gone so far as to show up fifteen minutes early to make sure that he didn't accidentally miss his date. The location had been chosen for a good reason--the park was fairly near the center of the city and the two of them wouldn't have to walk very far to go for coffee or ice-skating or anything--but there were quite a few people around. Hopefully they would be able to find each other.
