@ourinquisitorialness tagged me and since they shared some of their lovely contribution to our collaborative work with Silver and Talerio here, I will share mine with our Rooks, Falx Verus (aka Rexus Leventis) and Aristide Mercar.
(For context, in my headcanon the reason Rex has been able to pass as the adopted son of Charon Mercar for so long is because Charon Mercar is notorious for having adopted at minimum about a dozen children, so if you say you’re a Mercar, chances are good enough that you are that nobody in Minrathous really bothers to check. However, secrets never stay secret forever, and eventually the pretender Mercar was bound to meet a real one.)
Naturally, memory caught up with him out of spite at being accused of not knowing something and about ten minutes too late, and Rexus raised a pointed finger towards the Qunari in recognition.
Realizing also that this may not particularly help his case when presented without context, he elaborated almost immediately, pacing as well as he could in the tight space. “It’s a…a…kaffas, one of those…things you say to help you remember something else. Something something ‘wiped his arse’ which was pointedly ‘arse’ and not ‘ass’ because ‘arse’ was the qun-ar-i.” He stopped and pointed at said Qunari again, indignantly this time. “Because I did learn about y- our family, actually, and all this time it hasn’t made a lick of difference because it turns out when you say ‘I’m one of Charon Mercar’s foundlings’, people ask questions like ‘is that so?’ and ‘the old man really will take in just anyone, won’t he?’, if they ask anything at all, not ‘please list all of your siblings in chronological order’ or ‘what’s your Qunari brother’s name?’. Not to mention that except for you, you lot have been quite good at staying put in Ventus where you belong and not bloody bothering me, so excuse me if I’m a tad forgetful about people I’ve not had to see or think about for the last…” he mumbled something indistinct in between feigned coughing, “…or so years.”
