From the Archive: June 9th, 1996 was back-to-back show madness that started earlier in the evening in San Pedro, CA opening for reggae/ska great Desmond Dekker (swipe left) w/ @steadybeatrecordings - then jumping back into our cars for a long caravan back to Silver Lake to play a Chicano art show set at 2AM with promoter and punk rock veterano Eddie Ayala @eddiesugarskull . Eclectic, amazing line-up: If you know your East LA art history you’ll recognize the great Patssi Valdez @patssi.valdez member of Chicano art collective Asco 🤘🏾(!), author Aida Salazar @aida_writes 📖, and art activist Linda Gamboa @not_valid213 🤘🏾El Luchador Chicano was actor Del Zamora @delzamora.actor (Repo Man, Born In East LA.) DJ Michael Sanchez who was spinning that night was the guy who helped book us into Luna Park in W. Hollywood a few weeks later. We’d roll back into Bakersfield at 6AM the next morning wired on strong AMPM coffee and candy. Down the line we’d do more warehouse art shows and at @soapplantwacko with @truliodisgracias 🤘🏾Wild times. . . . . #silverlake #glaxastudios #chicanoart #ascoart #mentoburu #latinska #1996 #chicanounderground #californiaska #steadybeatrecordings #watersclubsanpedro #chicanomusic https://www.instagram.com/p/CDRhj4jA1Dp/?igshid=1el9dtqqzvxdr
