For a long time, Jamie had wondered if Claire and the bairn had made it. He wondered if he had a son or daughter. He wondered if things had gone the way of their first. And he’d had no answers for twenty years. But he still held them close to his heart. And when Claire had returned, had even brought proof of their child, their daughter, he held on even tighter. 

He pulled her into a tight embrace. “Aye. Ah ken what ye mean,” he said.

When Faith had stay with her family as she watched Claire and Jamie make their way to try and rescue, she’d been angry. Her life flipped upside down and she’d been...well for lack of a better word, glad to see them go. Glad to have space to process, knowing that they were supposed to be returning. And then they got the letter that they’d found Ian and would send him home but would not be returning themselves. And she’d felt regret. 

When Bree had arrived, planning on going after their parents, she’d taken the leap and left with her. And she’d been unable to help herself from rushing to the mother she’d never known. Even as Claire spoke, guilt squeezed at her. “Ah didnae give ye much of a chance,” she said. “Ah almost didnae even get to ken ye at all because Ah was so stubborn.”
