there has been *so many* mentions and rumors of a gleeboot lately (they are most likely just rumors, but i am going to yap about my thoughts anyway because this is my blog <3), and i genuinely just don’t think glee could ever be recreated.

like, glee came out at exactly the right time, it was not the best made nor had the best plot lines, but it was off the walls unhinged and had so much heart to it. it was able to make over the top references to things going on at the time, and later on became so much of pop culture today. which sounds cheesy, but it was so genuinely *huge* in concept. as the seasons went on, glee became what it was satirizing and lost the majority of the original sincerity of “wanting to make something good to be good” for the sake of “wanting to make money”

i fear there have already been *so many shows* that have already tried to replicate glee, and they all usually end up falling so flat. usually they fall flat because everything about them feels very…overly processed? like it has everything in it to be glee, but lacks the earnestness that the first few seasons of glee had, something glee even lost itself during the end.

that being said, shows *have* had the insanity and plot inconsistencies that glee had, and people *hate* them (i.e. riverdale, which isn’t good, but ironically the closest thing we’ve probably gotten to the overall insanity of some glee plot lines). which results in those shows getting canceled before they can become anything else other than just “that bad show with one season”

i truly think if they ever make a gleeboot it will truly just feel like artificial glee. it will ruin the reputation that the show has manage to (somehow) keep over the years, while also probably getting canceled after one season.

Maybe the Gleeboot should be about a teacher at McKinley who used to be part of the cheerios and is nostalgic for its glory days.

So she does the unthinkable.

She starts a cheerleading squad to the chagrin of the glee coach who doesn't want to share the budget with such an obsolete sport. Through all obstacles, the new cheerios squad is started and she's determined to make it better than it ever was. Even get the squad to Nationals. To show that sports and art can coexist, because why should it be one or the other? That sounds like something someone with lingering hang ups from high school would come up with haha 🤪

I guess i didn't think much of the ending before cause artsy high schools are a thing.

But I guess its different in the usa cause what school you go to is determined by your district. So unless there are multiple schools in your district your stuck with the one you got or go private? Idk

But then it got me really thinking like wow... they really did turn a school with a cheerleading program that won multiple nationals in a row into an arts school. There were kids that got scholarships through the cheerios, I know Sue's methods were very questionable but still??

Ah well, irl sports are percieved as a more "viable" thing to pursue so maybe this fictional school getting a W for the arts isn't that bad. But I feel like they could've achieved this message by having McKinley heavily expand its arts program? This doesn't need to be a zero sum game 🙃

But yes! That sounds great tbh. And yeah Glee viewed this whole arts vs. sports binary as such a zero sum game. Ridiculous and shows how little they cared for the Glee club members who were accomplished athletes. By which I mean they conveniently ignored the jocks were jocks whenever it wasn't a storyline and the Cheerios were villanized and cheerleading stereotypes always came down to be vapid and Bad for wanting to be popular. So fun.

People shit on Spencer a lot for what people think was a "not like other gays" attitude but I appreciate that he actively went against Glee's usual tokenising attitude. And it's clear from the audience reception that they weren't in fact ready for the not like other gays messaging.

Anyway if the Gleeboot were to subvert what OG Glee did and take the sports POV I'd actually really dig that because it would highlight how ridiculous it is to force kids to choose. Did they learn nothing from Troy Bolton's struggle?

i don't think they'll ever do a glee reboot, if they do, it would be a completely new cast. RM has recently said he regretted going on after cory died, so i could not see him doing another reboot after losing naya too. i think they have more tact than that

I mean... Let's fucking hope so alsjfsklf. I think he's already shown himself to be pretty tactless and tasteless in lots of areas, but at least we can hope this is one line he wouldn't cross

You are tasked with creating a new version of your favorite show, what is it and what choices would you make?

Okay, so I’m rebooting Glee. Judge me. I don’t care. We’re back at William McKinley High School, but it’s set after season five. So Mr. Schue is principal and it’s an arts magnet school. Except this time around, the New Directions are the antagonists a la the Cheerios. They’ve become mad with power after dominating the show choir world year after year.

In comes this ragtag group of freshman who all audition for New Directions and don’t get in. They stumble upon videos of New Directions back when it was this group of outcasts that just wanted to make music. So they decide to form their own show choir and go head to head with people from their own school. It’s just as ridiculous as the original series, but with a whole new set of fresh faces.

The only returning actors are Matthew Morrison and Jane Lynch. The rest of the original cast has guest appearances here and there throughout the series, but they’re not the main focus. That’s what killed the last three seasons of Glee, too many new characters to develop while also continuing the stories of the characters you know and love. It’s all about starting fresh. Also, Rachel Berry is the judge at Nationals and the new team beats New Directions.
