This absolutely stunning yellow 18th-century gown was designed by James Acheson for the 1988 film 𝑫𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒔 𝑳𝒊𝒂𝒊𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒔. His work earned him an Academy Award for Best Costume Design. The yellow riding habit, used in 𝑫𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒔 𝑳𝒊𝒂𝒊𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒔 as a traveling gown, was first worn by Glenn Close as the Marquise Isabelle de Merteuil. The piece made a second appearance in 𝑫𝒂𝒓𝒌 𝑺𝒉𝒂𝒅𝒐𝒘𝒔 𝑹𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒍 in 1991 on Barbara Steele as the Countess Natalie du Pres. Glenn Close is known to keep her costumes from every production she works on, so it is interesting that this one was reused. How and why it did not go directly into her collection after 1988, and how it made it into her collection after its appearance in 𝑫𝒂𝒓𝒌 𝑺𝒉𝒂𝒅𝒐𝒘𝒔, is unknown. Is this perhaps a duplicate costume? This costume was recently on display at the Telfair Museums in Savannah, Georgia.
