Bonus germ:
the “glinda?” part of wicked witch of the east is so funny to me bc. boq’s in love with glinda. elphaba’s in love with glinda. nessa’s probably also in love with glinda. glinda’s just pulling everyone all around
Imagine:
Post-Wicked Witch of the East Nessa/Glinda, where:
Nessa wants revenge on Boq by seducing Glinda, but also revenge on Glinda, because she is the one Boq loves. She is also power-hungry and attempting to gain more political influence through her.
Glinda tries to get revenge on Elphaba by seducing her sister, but also wants the closest approximation of Elphaba she can get (completely ignoring, of course, that Nessa and Elphaba are very different.)
The fucked up power dynamics, the way both of them want to use the other for their gain, the juicy angst...
Glinda and Nessa headcanons because they're literally sisters-in-law
1.) Nessa is the founding mother of Gelphie. Before she literally started their friendship (by telling Elphaba that she wished there was a way to repay Glinda), she would secretly ship the two of them.
Like... the moment this girl heard that her sister was sharing a room with Glinda, she had this thought of, 'oh... what if they were... more... than roommates?'
And then when Elphaba would not stop gossiping about Glinda to her, she low key started shipping it more because she was like 'oh... enemies to lovers? mwahahahahaha 👺👺'
2.) Glinda at first thought that Nessa was really cutesy for no reason other than 'she's Elphie's baby sister :>>>'
Like not in a patronising, ableist way. It's just that feeling of your... "best friend👀's" younger sibling(s)
She once accidentally called Nessa cutesy out loud and earned herself a horrendible glare from her
3.) Glinda adores Nessa's slippers (the same ones that got snatched lmfao 😭😭😭😭)
She saw her wearing those at the Ozdust and was low key a little envious 😭
4.) To extend on that, Glinda once went to Nessa's dorm for whatever reason - presumably because Elphaba had a class at that time and like... why not bond with the sister-in-law?
And when she got there, Nessa was rearranging her closet, so her clothes were all over her bed and she was HIGH KEY annoyed that Glinda just sauntered into her room like that, because:
a.) She finally reached a flow state with her packing and rearranging and then Glinda interrupted it and like... Nessa fucking despises it when ANYONE is in her room
b.) To extend on that, she FURTHER hates it when anyone catches her room being messy
Anyway, to show how annoyed she was, she didn't even bother looking at Glinda when she tried talking to her, and just continued her packing and occasionally spoke back to her (she was sighing and rolling her eyes the entire time)
ANYWAY, Glinda was low key getting distracted and stuff because she was like: a.) "oh, this shirt is so nice! Where'd you get it?"
b.) "Can I borrow this dress one day if you're not wearing it?"
c.) "This would look so good in pink."
... and all the while Nessa was just snatching her clothing items out of Glinda's hands with a "thanks", "yeah, borrow it whenever" (she did NOT mean that at all) and "I don't know where I got that from: it was a gift / it's... old" (lies. Lies, lies, lies, lies, lies. Nessa is a D1 gatekeeper and will NOT share where she buys her stuff from)
Glinda: are you annoyed? It's just... you seem a little annoyed
Nessa: I'm not... annoyed. I'm just trying to work.
Glinda: can't I help you?
Nessa: no, actually. But thank you.
Glinda: ... okay, I'll just distract myself, then
Nessa: o- wait, no-
Glinda: (scribbling on Nessa's calendar with a pen) this pen is really inky...
Nessa: Can you please stop touching all my stuff?!
Glinda: :(
Glinda: [puts pen away sadly]
5.) They only really started vibing when Glinda started talking shit about Ms Coddle and Nessa immediately lit up and started hating on her too [num1 opp yall]
6.) They go shopping together but Nessa low key gets a teensy bit annoyed with Glinda every now and again
7.) Sometimes when Glinda and Elphaba fight - or if Glinda wants to surprise Elphaba but isn't sure what to do / get for her - Glinda asks Nessa for advice and stuff
8.) Glinda asked Nessa for her curl routine because "I just wanna see what I would look like with curly hair, too :b," and Nessa being the gatekeeper that she is was like, "oh, my hair just does that. My curls are natural."
And she's relatively telling the truth, although she does have a few products she uses to keep her curls in order, but she will not tell anyone - least of all Glinda.
9.) Glinda has at one point found a dog and wanted to keep it for the day and every time the dog went near Nessa, Nessa would tell it to fuck off because she does NOT like dogs at all. And then Glinda pouts and sadly takes the dog back while saying, "he just wanted to play with you :("
10.) Finally, one nice one 😔
(Well, of Nessa being nice to Glinda😔)
Sometimes, Nessa, Elphie and Glinda have sleepovers and Nessa usually tells the best scary stories. Like... idk. I HC that Nessa loves horror shit and isn't easily scared.
Anyway, Glinda is easily scared, and whenever Nessa is done telling her story, she allows Glinda to sleep with the lights on, even though she (Nessa) is an extremely light sleeper and fucking hates any type of light being on while she is trying to sleep. But before then, she'll convince Glinda that the story is completely fake and then give her a security blanket 😔
Glinda & Nessa: Mirrors and Wickedness
And so that beautiful girl
With the beautiful life
Has a question that haunts her somehow
If she comes down from the sky
Gives the real world a try
Who in the world is she now?
– The Girl in the Bubble
Alone and loveless here
With just the girl in the mirror
Just her and me
The Wicked Witch of the East
We deserve each other
– The Wicked Witch of the East
—
Who is truly Wicked?
These shots parallel Nessa and Glinda directly. They are shot from exactly the same angle to show them looking at themselves in the mirror. They are just two girls in the mirror left alone in the end – Nessa after Boq has become the Tin Man and Glinda after Elphaba has left Oz.
In TGITB Glinda asks who she will be once she comes down from the sky and pops that bubble of privilege. WWOTE posits one possible direction her life could go, namely to be left alone and loveless.
Her choice to try to be good and to work towards that every day is what could prevent her from becoming the Wicked Witch of the North.
However that doesn't mean she doesn't already see herself that way in the mirror, when everybody else still sees Glinda the Good Witch. After all one interpretation of No One Mourns The Wicked is that Glinda is singing about herself as the Wicked one:
And goodness knows the wicked's lives are lonely
Goodness knows the wicked die alone
It just shows when you're wicked, you're left only
On your own
We could argue this is Glinda seeing herself as the Wicked one who is left to die alone, because in her mind she is the only survivor from all of her friends. She might even have lingering guilt surrounding the death of at least Nessa, possibly Fiyero as well.
It is important to remember that while Nessa names herself the Wicked Witch of the East in the second movie, we never hear anybody else refer to her by that title. Nobody after all knew she cast that botched spell. Unlike in the books where she casts spells on the Munchkinlanders and is generally remembered by the WWOTE title, her Wicked Witch status in the movie is one of her own creation.
This connection between their own perception of themselves as contrasted against the way the rest of Oz views them is symbolized by the usage of mirrors. Prominent in the movie in both the scene for TGITB (not pictured above) and the one for WWOTE.
In this way both Glinda and Nessa perceive themselves to be the Wicked ones while Oz doesn't. This is in direct contrast to Elphaba who is perceived by the Ozians as the Wicked Witch of the West, a title which she only embraces after No Good Deed and only reluctantly after trying to do good and to be perceived as such. (She mentions in The Wizard and I and in Every Day More Wicked that she wants to be perceived as just and righteous by the people.)
It begs the questions of the audience: Who is truly wicked? Are our perceptions of ourselves flawed?

I hope all of that was coherent! These thoughts have been haunting me since people pointed out the girl in the mirror line relating to Glinda. This meta is pro all of the witches of Oz, I love complex female characters. You will be blocked for hating on any of them on my post<3
musical glindarose could fix each other. book glindarose match each other’s freak on a concerning level.
