Introducing the Kubrow Matriarch and Patriarch, two field bosses that I thought up with the help of a friend to establish how they would work. Destroying kubrow nests so far only gives you goodthings, and nothing comes of it but eggs, mods, affinity, and ammo. These two are the result of too many nests destroyed, and yield loot when killed, similar to the Stalker, though exclusive to Earth tilesets and arguably less annoying. Announcing their presence with blood-curdling howls, these two alpha kubrows seek to put a stop to the destruction of their nests. Carrying unused eggs in one’s inventory likewise carries the risk of the pair noticing unfortunate Tenno.
The Matriarch is large and slow, but a threat to Tenno who can’t dish out as much damage as they are dealt. Her massive, stocky frame is built to withstand heavy gunfire, but her damage output is lackluster in comparison to her ability to face damage head-on. This, coupled with how she never fights without the aid of the Patriarch by her side, makes for a deadly beast with a knack for revenge. She can guard herself by hunkering down and concealing her soft, vulnerable neck and chest for short periods of time, or guard the Patriarch by giving him temporary armor buffs.
The Patriarch, on the other hand, is small, fast, and lightly built, but a powerhouse in a smaller package. Where the Matriarch lacks in damage, the Patriarch picks up the slack with a large damage output and the ability to perform finishers on unwary Tenno. As he is smaller and has thinner skin than his female counterpart, he is less resistant to damage, but more than makes up for it with his own.
Both of them drop exclusive loot, and with it new opportunities for Tenno Companion upgrades and builds:
Both have a small change to drop “Alpha Genes,” the P+ and M+ Genes, respectively. Both guarantee the sex of Kubrows depending on which gene is used for incubation, with the added benefits and downfalls of each alpha.
Special Precept mods for Matriarch and Patriarch Kubrows will help to turn the tide of battle, with the Matriarch focusing on defense and the Patriarch focusing on offense.
