My entry for @glitternightingale‘s DTIYS challenge (original drawing on her blog)!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a ton of fun!
I have finally completed @glitternightingale's DTIYS art challenge!
Boy, was this a challenge indeed - it was the first time I've ever drawn Augustin and Felix, and only the second for Julieta and Pepa. Just getting all the proportions right took absolute ages, but the reward was a lovely picture at least resembling Glitter's beautiful one!
And we don't talk about hands... 🫣
Nevertheless, thank you for the opportunity to draw these beans. 😉🤭 I had fun!
Ehhhhh....I did an art thing
I am definitely not an artíst, but I've been sketching lately for funsies. I worked up the courage to do a DTIYS. You can find @glitternightingale's AMAZING original work here!
Attempt numero uno:
...aaaand my attempt at cleaning it up, which may or may not have been successful:
Please have grace for poor disproportionate Félix, as by the time I got to him I had almost run out of the will to live. Visual artists seriously amaze me. 🙌 Thank you for pushing me out of my comfort zone with this great prompt, glitter!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY @glitternightingale
You wonderful person you! Please accept this small drabble of Bruno listening to a certain songbird😘
****************************
Bruno is transfixed.
He sits on the floor and stares at the old radio idling on the low table in front of him. The thing had been a gift to his mother by a merchant who had stumbled upon the Encanto a year ago. It is a deep green and some of the buttons had already been broken off by the time Mama had brought it home.
Mama and his sisters are indifferent about the radio, but Bruno is fascinated by it and by the possibilities it represents. The merchant had proudly proclaimed that you could catch radio stations from all around the world with the thing. Bruno had done his best to prove him right over the year, but to no avail. It only works once in a full moon (or so it feels) and then only for a few seconds, picking up a weak signal from the next town over.
The valley is just too deeply hidden, the mountains surrounding it on all sides certainly not helping.
Alma has wanted to toss it many times but Bruno has always managed to stop her.
Because sometimes, when Bruno is in the mood, he can sit for hours in front of it and play with the dials. Back and forth, back and forth he will twist them, enchanted and lost in his own world. And sometimes, so very rarely and only for him, his tenacity pays off and some music and voices burst through the static.
Like today. It's the 19th of May 1924 and Bruno has spent an afternoon idly playing around with the dials. His sisters are on a double date with Felix and Agustin and his mother is at a council meeting. Bruno was supposed to go into the village and ask if anyone needs his help or a vision, but he's made the executive decision to… not do that.
Instead he is parked on the carpet in front of the radio and listlessly tries to find a frequency that actually plays some music. The static has been filling his head for an hour by now and he barely notices in time that he has actually found something. He quickly lets go of the dial and breathes a sigh of relief when the sounds stay. Voices fill the air. They don't speak Spanish, but a language he doesn't understand. He thinks it might be English and he has a moment of utter joy at the thought that he is receiving something from another part of the world.
The merchant was right!
And then the voices are replaced by music. And birdsong? Strings fill the air accompanied by the voice of a bird he has never heard before. It shouldn't work so well together, but it does. The strings crescendo and the bird, whatever bird it might be, chirps and chirps and chirps with the loveliest voice, its song filling Casita and Bruno's heart.
He closes his eyes. He is crying, but for the first time in a long time they are not tears of pain and sadness.
He feels content. He feels at peace.
He listens until the radio starts to splutter and the signal starts to break up. The birdsong and the strings are lost to static and silence before long.
Bruno is never able to find the frequency again after that day.
But that's okay.
The song of the bird plays in his heart every time he closes his eyes.

22, 25, 27, and 40 for the ask game, please. ^^
22. How organized are you with your writing? Describe to me your organization method, if it exists. What tools do you use? Notebooks? Binders? Apps? The Cloud?
I have my laptop with both my google docs and my pages! Though I use google docs most of the time. I also have a writing notebook!
25. What is a weird, hyper-specific detail you know about one of your characters that is completely irrelevant to the story?
OG story related - My version of Death loves chili dogs
Encanto fanfic related - Calficer and Alma like to play cards when Alma can't sleep (it makes sense in context)
27. Who is the most stressful character you’ve ever written? Why?
Christ, I once tried writing a Dear Evan Hansen fanfic. It was so hard to nail the characters down ;-; Right now, I'd say Alma is hard to pin down. It's more plot relevant stuff that stresses me out XD
40. Please share a poem with me, I need it.
Will this seven-year-old poem I wrote when I was 13 count?
Dude you're so awesome, I don't know where to begin
The sunlight doesn't shun you, instead it welcomes you in
You're funny and you're smart and you're very, very kind,
And you're so much cuter than a donkey's behind
:D
Soon... 🤭
