Idk what this is but 1.5k of badly written thing on Yamaguchi, tsukishima and Akiteru is The Two Crowns verse for shishihuntsthebooty ! I hope you learn a bit more about the characters themselves
Yamaguchi is actually very interesting above being Tsukishima's eyes because he is bot n Tsukki's shadow and the one putting him aside.
Like, Yamaguchi is only a page. Lowborn, and chosen only to serve Tsukishima when he can't serve himself because of his low sight. He is not very bright or very well versed in every… lordly thing like Tsukishima is, or even the other first years thanks to their upbringing/travels. So in a way, he is truly the lesser one, the one constantly beneath Tsukishima, because even in his physique, he is so different people tend to notice Tsukki first.
And he knows it, knows that beyond their friends, no one really sees him. He is the shadow, the eyes of the heir of Yronwood and it's pretty much it. No one notices him for himself, and as soon as Tsukishima stands up for himself, who is he really ? He has been a page for so long, can he truly be someone, something else ? Will people even realize who he is ?
Because compared to Hinata and Kageyama, compared even to Yachi, he is no bright one. But he knows the court more than anyone else, has heard all the rumors and everything that could make Daichi crumble in a moment, and he learns. But he is nothing but a page still, and he knows there is not future for him if he is alone, and fears to be sent to Yronwood, to a lesser life if something ever happens to Tsukishima.
But at the same time, he is the one on the spotlight because Tsukishima has to keep him around. He is the one that talks and act on his behalf sometimes, and people will usually talk with him rather than with Tsukishima because he is way more polite and open. It is a very lonely position, outside of closed quarters where Tsukishima and him are closer than ever without the court's eyes ; but he thrives on attention so much outside of it, to prove his own worth that he gathers all the light with himself.
The both of them rely a lot on each other, and Tsukishima chose Yamaguchi above everyone else when his father wanted to make him heir (even if he has chosen Akiteru too, but decided never to look back on him) and they fled to Sunspear together to be wards of the Prince. They're an item through and through and there is not a life where being apart will be easy.
Tsukishima is a far more… obvious character to describe ? especially since he has been noticed by Kenma and Kuroo both. For starters, he is the only one bar Moniwa to have been born with a physical impair, because if he is not blind as Kenma believes him to be ; he is really short sighted and cannot see beyond his own arm reach. Nothing but blurs of colors. (which is born out of him wearing glasses but Westeros isn't that medically advanced, so very bad eyesight)
It's really incapacitating because he cannot read, or very slowly so his eyes adjust and he cannot be sure as to who he talk with and where does he go unless he feels the stones or the person is right into his personal place. And he does not allow anyone but yamaguchi, and yachi for now to be this close.
(and Kuroo. In this really hot affair of them in ch,.5, Kuroo who is the first person he sees this close, this well in such an intimate way. Kuroo, who incidentally is the first one to see him for the smart and cunning person he can be. And also his attractiveness, bland compared to the court in itself, but he is seen, and even if he desires to hide it, he thrives on it too. Because if Yamaguchi sees his worth, it is born out of years of companionship, of deep friendship where they are the only one to see each other's value as individuals and not as a pair)
Truthfully, it gets lonely for him. He is a ward of the Crown since he declined to be the heir against Akiteru's claim to the Yronwood title ; but the arrival of Kageyama and Hinata and later on Yachi really puts him in the background. He can't compare to their skills, to their worth to Daichi ; and he is truly no one but the second son of the Yronwood lord, one who requires protection and watch because he cannot do so for himself.
He knows he is a burden sometimes, knows he hinders Yamaguchi's own growth but he needs to see less he does not feel safe. And this, in a world like ASOIAF, takes a toll on everyone.
He usually falls into depression, into a state where it is easier not to force on his eyes to see and he spends days looking at blurred celling, wondering why is he here, why has he been chosen, and why has his father not killed a sightless child.
Dorne is an unforgiving land, and his lack of good sight is a handicap in itself. If children are blessed in Dorne, he wonders why his father, such a stern man and even more on his brother, has accepted that his child can be so useless to him. And he knows he was chosen to be heir only to spite Akiteru's love to Saeko, not for his worth as ruler or lord.
Speaking of which, is relationship with Akiteru is a very complicated one. He has seen him go to war up in the North when the Small Giant fought for the wildling, and he knew Saeko was his babe. His brother, heir to Yronwood, and all lord on his own right chose a raider, a bastar of Hellholt over his own family, over his own worth. Or that is why his father always said. It is why, a few years before the Serie begins, his father wanted to ban Akiteru because of Saeko, of his love for this thief, for this one whi blinded him with her love and her gold.
And Akiteru fought for her, even if Saeko can do it for herself, tsukishima saw how fierce he was and he stepped down, said he won't claim the title of Lord. And when Akiteru went to thank him, Tsukishima never answered. Not after months in the capital, not to the many letters he knows where sent because Yamaguchi always asks him if he wants them to be read. Because even if he knows Saeko is Akiteru's hapiness, he truly believes his father's words, that Akiteru forsaken them for this woman, for their children and whatever happened in the North.
And he does reject Akiteru, but him only. He cannot resist the children's attention, despite them being of a Tanaka temper more than anything (but he still is proud that one of them loves him more than their uncle Ryuunosuke) ; but he would never pay attention to Akiteru, despite his attempts, despite Yamaguchi's too.
Maybe it is born out of a bitterness because he knows how unhappy Akiteru was in his family, to be their father's heir, and Saeko went and stole him all the way, then they had children, and Tsukishima once again faded in the background, and he is still a teenager after all, he resents this and Akiteru knows it. And gods he tries to show Tsukki it is not this, but it does not work for a long time. And maybe it would have never happened in the long time.
On a more personal self, Akiteru thrives for love, for something greater than the cold stone of Yronwood, he has found it somehow in the road North, but long before when Saeko stole some of his gold and his heart in the same way. His family is everything to him,and he includes everyone but his father (or so he thought, but the blow to choose Tsukki as heir was hard on him, and he was saved by his baby brother, the one he swore to protect ; but the roles were reversed). He is heir to Yronwood, but he has no contact with Tsukki but what Yamaguchi can tell him, when he is at Sunspear with Saeko and their children. He knows better than everyone Tsukki's struggle for before Yamaguchi was picked at the orphanage to become his page, Akiteru took care of him. And he has seen him become this colder young man, far from the happy child who definitely bumped into too many walls.
And his heart ache for him, because for years, it is nothing but missed chances and opportunities between themselves and he wonders if he'll make things right one day.
